Veterans React to Secretary Gates’ Answer on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

The largest and most active progressive group of veterans with 105,000+ members, VoteVets.org, says Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is wrong to delay action on the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on gays and lesbians in the military. On FOX News Sunday, Gates said about the policy that the administration had a lot on its plate and "let's push that one down the road a little bit." ...Read More

Veterans - Near and Far - Mobilize for Repeal

The Sunshine State. True to its word, I spent five magnificent days in sunny Miami and Fort Lauderdale as part of SLDN's effort to build local support for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." ...Read More

Now is not the Time to Delay Repeal

The bottom line is if we keep "pushing it down the road" as Defense Secretary Gates said on Sunday, we will have soldiers like myself who no longer want to be in the military. This will harm our military and cause us to look weak to our enemies. Losing valuable members of what my comrades in the military constantly call "our team - our family" undermines the readiness of our military. ...Read More

Sullivan’s Home Run

President Obama has been in office approaching three months. The man has a full plate, but a president's plate is never too full to tackle, in a timely fashion, major mistakes of the past. Military Mom Calls on Leaders to Show Courage

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" impacts so many lives adversely. It causes unbearable stress not only on our service members, but on our families every day. I know because I've lived through it. We cannot afford to kick repeal "down the road" as Gates said. ...Read More

Where Does President Obama Stand?

Elaine Donnelly is at it again. On Tuesday she trotted out former commandant of the Marine Corps Carl E. Mundy Jr. and a thousand (she says; we didn't count them) other retired flag and general officers to warn President Obama that they are firmly behind the 1993 law known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." ...Read More

DADT Creates More Work to Replace Lost Talent

I am not impressed with Secretary Gates' response to the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" question on Fox News Sunday. I am tired of hearing from the folks who are clearly out of touch with the deckplate leadership issues going on in the military. I think it is wrong to think that members of the military can't do the job. ...Read More
