Country Singer Chely Wright Supports Repeal
Today’s edition of The Wednesday Sun reports that country singer/songwriter Chely Wright talked about the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” during a recent Q&A about her new memoir, “Like Me.” In the book, she discusses her life, music and coming out as a lesbian. The star also devotes an entire chapter to the DADT law.
Wright, whose brother serves in the Marine Corps, told the audience that DADT violates the military’s core values:
“Military service is about honor and valor and integrity, and they instruct you to lie,” she said. “I think if you polled the people serving, they’d say (the policy) is a bunch of crap. But there’s an old-school regime that’s holding onto that policy. I have an idea of why people have such vehement opposition to people like us. There are sometimes reasons why people are so afraid of us and it has very little to do with us. It has a lot more to do with them.”
