Deputy Secretary of Defense Wants DADT To Go

William Lynn, deputy secretary of defense, expressed support for congressional repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” this week on Charlie Rose. This is the latest example of how attitudes across all levels of the armed forces are changing with respect to getting rid of this discriminatory law.

Lynn joins the commander in chief President Barack Obama, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, General Colin Powell, General John Shalikashvili, and a growing number of service members in their 20s and 30s who understand that sexual orientation has nothing to do with completing the mission.

As long as DADT remains the law, advocates of repeal must contact both their senators and tell them what more and more military leaders are recognizing: The time has come to end this law and strengthen our armed forces.
