Don’t Miss “Let’s Hear It For The Boys”
On February 12 the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington (GMCW) will pay tribute to the LGBT men and women who’ve served our nation in the military, past and present. The chorus will perform two concerts that day, highlighting the sacrifices of gay and lesbian service members from the Revolutionary War up to the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Particular focus will be paid to those discharged under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT), with a highlight of the law’s repeal last December.
GMCW has asked me to join them in their concert to speak about my career as an Air Force officer and my discharge under DADT, as well as the efforts over the past year to repeal this law. I am honored and delighted to be their guest and join them in this tribute to those who’ve defended our nation.
The GMCW will also present the Harmony Award to Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), in recognition of the organization’s leadership in helping to pass repeal legislation. SLDN has provided free legal counsel to thousands of LGBT service members since DADT first became a law in 1993. This organization has also worked tirelessly to push DADT repeal legislation through Congress.
SLDN provided valuable legal counsel when I was being discharged from the Air Force several years ago, following a search of my private e-mails in Iraq. This past year I once again worked with SLDN by telling my story many times in Congress and the media to highlight the devastating realities of this unconstitutional law.
Please join me and GMCW for a very special tribute. To learn more about the GMCW “Let’s Hear It For The Boys" concert, click here and get your tickets today.
