Energize, Mobilize and Spread the Word for Repeal

Tomorrow I will visit the University of Chicago Law School to educate students about the impact of DADT on our men and women in uniform, and provide the latest update on the legislative fight to end DADT. The event, "Do Ask, Do Tell: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Battle Over Don't Ask, Don't Tell," is being sponsored by the American Constitution Society (ACS) and Outlaw, the campus LGBT law student group.

As the DADT debate heats up on Capitol Hill, advocates of repeal need to mobilize today if we want to lift the ban this year. That’s why I’m also going to urge attendees to call their Chicago-area representatives who have still not yet signed on to the Military Readiness Enhancement Act (HR 1283):

Rep. Melissa Bean (202-225-3711)

Rep. Judy Biggert (202-225-3515)

Rep. Debbie Halvorson (202 225-3635)

Rep. Pete Roskam (202 225-4561)

Rep. Dan Lipinski (202-225-5701)

DADT forces the 66,000 LGBT patriots currently in the ranks to serve in silence, but we can still speak out on their behalf. Supporters in all 50 states can tell the President and Congressional leaders that our service members deserve nothing less than full repeal in 2010.

Read SLDN’s latest action alert, and tell Washington that now is the time for repeal.

Aron— Do any of these Chicago people know Rahm Emanuel?  I suspect he was behind the Presidential OK for the Skelton/Mullen/Gates letters trying to delay forever the end of DADT.  If so, can any of them influence the Commander-in-Chief (thru Rham) to end DADT this year?
