Firing Back at the American Legion

Danny HernandezFor some time, the American Legion has voiced its opposition to the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” When we were fighting to pass legislation in the Congress, they tried to block us. Then, last week, they weighed in again urging the Obama Administration to continue to defend the constitutionality of DADT.

Today, Major General Dennis Laich (USA, retired) fired back in a letter to American Legion Commander Jimmie Foster, declining to renew his membership in the organization until its policies reflect the valuable service and sacrifice that gay and lesbian Americans have made to our military throughout the generations. Think Progress broke the story, and you can read it – and the letter – here.

Thanks, MG Laich, for your leadership and advocacy.
