The House has spoken - again! In a historic vote on December 15th, by a margin of 250-175, the House of Representatives passed a new standalone bill (H.R. 2965) that would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Now the ball is in the Senate’s court.
We call upon the Senate to remain in session and in Washington until they pass the House bill to repeal "Don’t Ask, Don't Tell." Show your rage for repeal and insist the Senate stay in Washington until they have finished the job.

I assume someones going to judge me on this, but I’ll say it anyways.
I’m christian, and though I will not go extremely out of my way to protest for gays, but this law needs to be repealed. Like Gaga said, it’s not okay that people are being dropped from the army when they’re offering to protect our country! It’s just not fair. And I support this, completely.

I think this project is amazing! I didn’t know that the army forbids soldiers from being openly gay. With this and her speaking at the National Equality March, Lady Gaga has proven to us that she is more than just a singer (and a good one at that). Gay people are not that different from regular people. In a way we are no different from the people of the Salem witch trials being afraid and hateful of anything different. You’d think we would’ve evolved by now, but we haven’t. So I’d like to thank Gaga for fighting this. It’s important and it’s a shame she can’t fight without being called certain names. I think she’s brave and everyone thought Martin Luther King Jr. was brave for fighting for racial freedom, why is she any different? I especially liked the meat dress she wore to the VMA’s which meant “If we don’t stand up for our rights, we will have as many rights as the meat on our bones”. It rings true now, and hopefully it will 50 years from now. I want to make a difference, and that’s why I’m making this comment. I hope it’s read.

Thank you Lady GaGa for all that you do. i love that you fight for our rights and will not be detoured from the goals that you set out to accomplish. dont ask dont tell is a law that does keep us hidden, but for what? if we have the courage to join the armed forces and obviously have the capacity to accomplish the requirements. then why should we be tucked away as a big seceret. we are no different then a “straight soldier”. they might actually be surprised to realize how stong gays can actually be. keep fighting, you are the one with the strongest voice here, and i will continue to follow.

I called Sen Voinovich, the Republican Senator for Ohio, this morning to do my part in asking him to support the repeal. I was redirected to a member of his staff who kindly informed me that the Senator was not currently able to take personal phone calls. Lady GaGa- you need to stay out of things you do not understand. You are not in the military and so you have no rights in trying to change military law. I have served and am still serving in the military. I dont want to know if my roommate is gay. I dont want to be changing clothes and feel like the guy next to wants to be boned in the butt. Something you dont understand is the UCMJ, in the laws and regulations a person have sex -other than in the horizontal position is illegal and subject to seperation. If the dont ask dont tell is repealed then the soldiers who are gay will still get kicked out for breaking other rules that are in place to keep the cohesiveness of the military. And with my personal opinion, the military has enough problems with women because they will not do the same work as a male, not to say they dont even have to be as physically fit. Now if a gay guy is in the military and no longer has to hide it, they will dress inappropriately and openly act likea woman or even worse, they will try to get out of duties based on thier sexuallity. so stay out of politics, stick with your singing.

I hope that DADT gets repealed. It’s disgusting to forbid someone so hard working and faithful to their nation to discharge them for no apparent reason. Is there any scientific evidence that supports the fact that one’s sexual orientation affects their fighting ability? If so please let me know.. I can guarantee your evidence is 100% NOT conclusive. I’m not American so I cannot contact a senator, yet I certainly would if i were. I hope we have no such law in Canada.

This is a very just cause. Lady GaGa is a very busy woman giving time to use her influence however possible. If I could, as with you US citizens, I’d answer her call to make my feelings known. It is a very obscure piece of legislation.

I used to look up to Lady Gaga as a singer and performer but now I completely idolize her for all she is doing for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. With someone like Lady Gaga supporting this I think it will finally be overturned. She just has a way of capturing people’s attention and it shows in the responses that she has recieved so far from those all over the country. I know that it surely helped gain my interest and now I’m a huge supporter of the repeal after hearing all of the information she has given us. Let’s make history happen and get this repealed! Finally someone speaks up for what is right! I like so many other have numerous gay friends. They mean the WORLD to me. It kills me to see any discrimination towards the gay population. There is nothing different about these people. They should equally be able to serve their country without the fear of being discharged based on sexual preferenance. If they love their contry and want to fight for it as much as any other soldier, where does sexuality even come into play? This movement has literally brought tears to my eyes, because there is not one thing I would not do for the gay people I love. They make my life so much better and I am greatful to have them in my life. I truely believe that I am lucky to know these individuals, and the United States would be lucky to have them serve their country.

It still amazes me how ignorant people are nowadays. What gives others the right to deny freedom and equality? Equality and freedom are given birth rights. I’m only 15 years old, but feel, because of Gaga, so connected to the LGBT community, that I’ll never be afraid to stand up for them. I’ve fought against people my age, who claim “Homosexuality is wrong” and I continue to fight them, even when some mock me. But I don’t care, because I’m proud to support this community.
I’ll be praying for you all on Tuesday, and I send my support and love to all that suffer under the ridiculous (hope fully soon to be ex-) law, DADT.

Although this is a good idea, when you sign up to be in the service you sign a contract about I WILL NOT SAY THAT I AM GAY. YOU SIGNED IT. they did not FORCE you to sign it. I am a Vietnam Era Vet. I am a Lesbian. I wanted to make the military my career. As a result of my fear of being outed I gave up my dream. Had I stayed I would have to either hide my sexuality or be true to myself and end up with a less than honorable discharge. I was a RN and simply couldn’t take the chance of completely ruining my life. Homosexuals serve, have served, been awarded for their bravery. Have even been awarded the Medal of Honor. Ask those that were saved by this MOH winner if they care if he was Gay or not. Please reppeal DADT! Give others the chance I didn’t have!

I don’t understand why all this don’t tell don’t ask should have become law in the first place. When my husband was in the service we had gay’s and it really wasn’t a big deal. We had neighbors that were gay and felt it wasn’t a problem that they also were in the service. Its not fair since I know for a fact that others served and still get all their benefits. There are service men and women who have to go back over seas and some have orders not to go back but we are willing to send them back. And possible put our other men and women in harms way by using the ones that are not suppose to go back. If thats not slap in the face!

I want the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” to stay. I think the army has alot more issues that need to be addressed before this does. Like trying to get the soldiers more money for what they do. Help out the wounded worrier program. People don’t see what it would to take to make the millatery work with gays being open. It would cast the millatery to much money to make this happen. So many problems would come up if they pass this. Like they would have biuld more showers, more rooms, and more army programs would have to be put into place. I hope everyone reads this and Lady Gaga. Why don’t you put your name behind something that would help soldiers with bigger problems.

DADT should be repealed, The US Declaration of Independence states that “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It does NOT say all men except gays! It should not matter what people’s sexuality is, if they wish to serve is the Armed forces—they are risking THEIR lives for US!

Although not gay myself, my parents always taught me to love what is inside a person, their heart, their mind, their soul. What I have come to realize over these years is that all of those internal qualities are eternal and non-gender! If you fall in love with what is on the inside (like you really should try to do), then outside gender doesn’t matter! This nation is too brave and too intelligent to use this excuse to hate anymore! Thank you for speaking out and giving us a voice. Many of us have followed suit with both a video and a call to our senators. Unfortunately both of my senator’s inboxes were also full. I will, again, give a call tomorrow and again on Tuesday.
I full-heartedly believe in the equality of all people. Sexual orientation is irrevelant, especially in the ability to fight and serve for our country. If people wish to keep their sexual orientation private, that’s okay but for those who are open with their sexuality should also be allowed to do so, with no consquences. As Lady Gaga said, no person is more valuable than the next.
We are also aware that this law was set in place to illiminate hate crime or violence within the military due to sexual orientation but there are other ways to go about protecting all people within their respectable units than to disallow “gays” to be able to serve our country.
Please do away with Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Thank you.

As a lesbian Servicemember I had tears in my eyes when I watched the video you made Lady Gaga. The first thing people ask me when they find out I’m a lesbian is what’s it like to serve when you can’t be who you are? And my answer is always the same… it’s sad to think that if I were to die in combat; I’d be dying for rights and freedoms I can’t even enjoy myself. My girlfriend is in Afghanistan right now and I couldn’t go with her because, well we’re not in the same units, which we could have been if we were allowed to marry. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing a positive light to this situation we face. People can have opinions on the topic all they want, even those who have served or do serve now… but NONE of them know what it’s like to feel isolated, to feel like you have to lie 24/7, to have to hide a huge part of you… but still be expected to live up to the value of integrity and still be expected to have that “battle buddy” relationship where your guys to your left and right know everything about you. It’s really difficult knowing every day my gf’s life is on the line and if God forbid something happened to her, I’d have to beg and plead for my unit to let me go see my “best friend’s” memorial. Which they don’t have to let me go to. So it’s very frustrating and this policy should have ended years ago. On our military website AKO they set up an e-mail system that goes straight to the DOD and it’s strictly for Soldiers to e-mail the DOD on what their opinion of DADT is… you better believe I e-mailed them and had all of my other friends e-mail them, together we can put a stop to this discrimination and injustice.

This is a good cause for Gaga to capitalize upon, because it’s sexy and controversial and makes it look as if she really cares. Too bad most of her supporters are too young to vote. The girl can sing and dance, but that doesn’t mean she understands politics. Her inflated ego makes her think she has power over the Senate. What a childish mistake.
Perhaps, if she joins forces with Justin Bieber, there would be some real changes in the world!

Wow. This actually makes me really happy. I’m not homosexual, but many of my dearest, closest friends are.
Most of the seniors in my school pick on us freshman the most, and the fact that my friends are gay, makes them become even bigger targets, and it really does make me sick to my stomach. They cry, and throw up in the bathrooms sometimes.
I feel that if we show the government that everyone is equal, gay or straight, then others will begin to realize as well.

Thank you Lady Gaga for bringing up this issue at the VMA. Although I m not an American Citizen, I hope that one day the majority of people in your country will be more tolerant and less ignorant about sexual orientation. Here in Thailand, people are very open about their sexual preferences. We treat gays, lesbians and transexuals the way we treat straight men and women. It s pretty common here to see gay Tv presenters or gay actors. My friend is in the navy base here in Thailand he is openly gay and still serving. Lady gaga I m so proud of you, not only you are very talented (I love when you play piano) but also you use your fame in a positive way. Me and my mum who is nearly 60 just sang along to Alejandro on the radio. Paws up! We love you.

I am proud to have such a wonderful person such as GAGA standing behind such a promising piece of legislation! I am PROUD to say I am a gay service member. Should this pass I have a bright and promising military career ahead of me. However with that being said I can not live a lie and should I have to depart an organization that I love so much I am prepared to do so. A service members sexuality should not matter! I stand beside many GLB members daily and see no problem. Several of them have been in for 17+ years but have never had the same rights as a heterosexual military member. I however am relatively young in my career and hope to see legislation passed to allow future generations to serve openly. I think the survey that was distributed by the Pentagon was distributed in a biased manner and all members should have received it. Within my command most if not all people know about me and support me and others 100%. I have called and emailed Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr of my home state of NC and I hope many more will follow!

I was born and raised in Oklahoma and two years ago moved to Auckland, New Zealand to be with my partner. Her and I can walk down the street here and not have to worry. In New Zealand service members have always been allowed to serve openly. Hopefully one day the USA will follow in the footsteps of so many other countries and not care about the sexual orientation of the men and women that want to serve. I want what’s militarily effective, whether or not it’s what’s politically correct. Since I’m not knowledgeable in that area, I’m not qualified to speak about DADT, and by that standard, Gaga isn’t either. Shut up and sing, and dance, and dress crazy, et cetera.

I have phoned both Senator Ben Nelson and Senator Mike Johanns and begged them both to help repeal the Dont’ Ask Don’t Tell policy. I also e-mailed President Barak Obama and thanked him for his support of the repeal and urged him to do all that he can to see it through. The repeal of this antiquated law is something that I strongly believe in and I want to thank Lady Gaga for all that she has done to raise awareness for this issue. With the power of all of the monsters around the country rallying behind her, we will finally get this law repealed. God Bless you, Lady Gaga! You are a truly a hero to all of us.

I wrote both of my senators as well, although one is about to be out the door (Roland Burris) and won’t run again. People spent a lot of time worried about your meat dress, but I was actually more impressed with the cause you stood up for. I hope that repealing the DADT policy becomes a trending topic and matters more to people than what you’re wearing. Doubt it, but regardless of that, you got people’s attention so that’s what counts.

The fight for the right to love
don’t ask don’t tell is a great American in justice for those how have and will serve our country; we need to act as a united front to help and preserve the sense of freedom we have grown to entitle our young and old. Love is suppose to be a presence that has no form nor gender they say it transcends old and young to unite the most unlikely of pars now even more then ever it has grown into a force of controversy saying, whom you can love. For me no mortal should have this choice it’s as if we have the power to choose who lives or dies only god should get to make that choice.
Remembrance
Love is that feeling that leaves an indelible mark upon our hearts. For those we have loved and once loved we never truly forget. They all leave us something inside to remember them by. They all have touched us with something grater then themselves. It helps tie us together as a family and branches out through the years, weaving a tapestry of hope, faith and believe. Love is always omnipresent and fills us with warmth that never seems to be extinguished, even by the waning light of day.
This is a poem I have written in the loving memory of my grandfather who died this year. It gives you a glimpse into how I fell about love and what it means to me and should for you.

There are many reasons that this is wrong and should be repealed. I, myself, have been in a longstanding relationship (15 years) with my partner in the south and can understand the undue hardships of being different in a rural area, I just can’t fathom the mindset and pain that our heroes have to go through on a daily basis while they commit THEIR lives to making the world a better place for “us” - the ones not being actively hunted.
Please, everyone, do what you can - they are willing to risk their lives for ours, the ABSOLUTE least we can do is share our respect and voice our support.

I’d like to say that I totally agree with the repealing of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. I absolutely can’t stand the fact that there is discrimination between people JUST because of their sexual orientation; I mean, there shouldn’t be any kind of discrimination between all people.
In that case we are talking about soldiers, people who help and are devoted to their country: Why would they have to hide what they really are? &Why; kicking them out when everybody knows about their homosexuality?

I have a really hard time saying I am “Proud to be an American” when I and others in the LGBT Community are treated as Second Class Citizens. WELL DONE! My brother has been in the military for many years as a highly decorated officer, pilot, special forces, etc and he has been fighting this for many years. He has seen action in every conflict for over 15 years and has risked his life hundreds of times to save the lives of his men and yet he can not tell anyone he is gay?

I sent the following to both my Senators as well as Senator McCain (who will most likely be my Senator after I move to Arizona in the near future.
I have served in the U.S. Navy for eight years and am an Honorably Discharged Veteran and I am asking you to assist with not only your vote but your powers of persuading others to also help to make this law a thing of the past when the Senate will be voting on this matter.
It is discriminatory, it is wrong to ask someone to offer their life in support of this country and at the same time to ask them to hide their sexuality. If a person is willing to offer to support the constitution of this country it should afford them the protection that it affords to all citizens be they straight, gay, black, white or any other profile.
Your support as well as the support of all Senators is needed this Tuesday when you will be asked to consider and vote on this matter.

She had been the love of my life, the only woman and person that ever truly understood me and loved me unconditionally. I was devastated when she left me, and I miss her dearly. I serve this country…..But how can I be proud to serve a country that isn’t proud of me. I fight for this countries right, let me have me. Only in the twisted minds of right-wing bigots is a gay Navy SEAL less fit for combat/service than a straight rear-base pencil pushing POG (pussy other than grunt). Do you think the guys who are up there on the frontlines give a DAMN about whether the guy next to him is gay, straight, black, Jewish, or whatever? Its irrelevant when your lives are on the line and one slipup can get you and your friends killed. Do your duty and no one will care. Put others in danger and you’ll be rightfully reprimanded. Bigots don’t want to believe that DADT was always supposed to be a transitional policy to an open military. They’d rather just outright ban “all dem queers” but they can’t, so they use DADT to de facto ban them.

The fight for the right to love
don’t ask don’t tell is a great American in justice for those how have and will serve our country; we need to act as a united front to help and preserve the sense of freedom we have grown to entitle our young and old. Love is suppose to be a presence that has no form nor gender they say it transcends old and young to unite the most unlikely of pars now even more then ever it has grown into a force of controversy saying, whom you can love. For me no mar mortal should have this choice it’s as if we have the power to choose who lives or dies only god should get to make that choice.
Remembrance
Love is that feeling that leaves an indelible mark upon our hearts. For those we have loved and once loved we never truly forget. They all leave us something inside to remember them by. They all have touched us with something grater then themselves. It helps tie us together as a family and branches out through the years, weaving a tapestry of hope, faith and believe. Love is always omnipresent and fills us with warmth that never seems to be extinguished, even by the waning light of day.

I may not agree with everything the LGBT community does on a moral level, but I’m not perfect so it’s possible they don’t agree with everything I do either. I was born the daughter of an Air Force officer. My ties with the military community are strong. My father is now a retired Lt. Col. The man I love is currently serving with the Marines in Afghanistan. I have several friends who like him are serving somewhere or training somewhere. I am thankful for my American rights including the right to express myself. Today I am choosing to use that right to ask any Senator who will listen this please, PLEASE repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Its intentions were well but it has only brought opression to the LGBT community. I feel any person willing to die for our country should have a right to do so while remaining true to themselves. In the past, laws that lead to opression have been overturned. Women can vote. We have a black President. Isn’t it time for the gay community to have there chance at freedom?

We need more people like Lady Gaga. She knows what the right thing to do, and this is an issue that has been a problem for a while now. I found out about the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy this year, and from hearing and learning about it I find it to be very ridiculous. The ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy diminishes the peoplesrights of freedom, and equality amongst many americans. Through history we’ve fought our way to get to freedom, but we’ve always diminished the freedom of others for illogical reasons. Now so many are going towards gay and lesbians. Why do that. By having the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy the government is ruining the lives of so many people who just want to help our country, and tis is how the country repays them. For forcing them to hide who they are, and if they don’t hide your out of the force. Whatif someone came up to you, and said I don’t want you working for me; reason because your straight. You were just fired for something you love to do all because of who you are. You were born that way, and thats who you are. Don’t tell someone to change, and be someone there not. Gaga is a hero to so many people, a goodess, a very good, nice, careing, kind- hearted goddess, and if we follow her we coud help make so many people’s lives better.

I am currently serving in the military and have been since I was 17. Nearly 6 years in, I have dealt with hiding my true feelings for someone I care about deeply. He has always been there for me, and when he needed me most—I couldn’t stand up for him. The Army and its “Dont Ask, Dont Tell” policy has always been a negative topic with me and my significant other. So many arguments have been over my line of work and my eagerness to hide what love we had. I do believe still that the “Dont ask, Dont tell” policy is what ultimately ended our nearly four year relationship. When I was deployed, it was hard for him. He couldnt attend any of the family meetings or any of the help programs for spouses or significant others. He had to deal with my absence all by himself. It was not fair and still is not fair. I will always miss and love him and I have the military to thank for that missing space in my chest. Yet, I continue to stay in because maybe someday, I will be able to provide that hope…that light for some distant stranger. I will be able to someday provide a better safer America for my family and friends and those who continue on around me.
Until then, I will always love you TNT. Always have, and always will.

I am so glad that Gaga used her celebrity to raise awareness of a good cause. I knew about DADT but I did not actually think that in 2010 openly gay people could still not serve in the military. Upon learning of the injustice, I promptly called both of my senators and left messages to tell them to make sure this unjust law is repealed. It is time for positive steps towards the future and I know that someday everyone will be treated equally and it is our job to make that day get here.

I had no idea about this DADT policy. It sickens me that this sort of discrimination still takes place in this day and age. I may not be American but it doesn’t mean I’m not just as outraged. We’re all in this world together & so should take a stand together. Sexual preference does not change who you are as a person. It does not effect your ability to do your job, especially not one such as serving to protect your country. Lady Gaga thank you for bringing this to people’s attention. I’ve left messages to Senators Harry Reid, Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar. The “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy needs to end. This goes for any possible reincarnations of this policy and/or any attempt to derail the repeal process.
All men and woman should have the right to serve, regardless of sexual preference.

As the brother of a gay military officer I find DADT Unconstitutional, unjust, and downright awful.
I grew up singing Lee Greenwoods ‘Proud To Be An American’ but when it comes to laws such as DADT, i find myself choking on the words. I can’t wait to hit up a karaoke bar one day with the bro, and sing that song again like the days when I meant it.

Earlier today i called and spoke with my senator Sen. Lamar Alexander R-TN and he told me that he noted my concern and was pleased with my efforts, however he would be unable to vote to repeal DADT because it was against his campaign and moral standpoints, especially with it being an election year. Then i called back and this time was transferred to my other senator, yes some people don’t know they have two, and was transferred to Sen. Bob Corker R-TN and he told me basically the same thing. However though my attempts were unsuccessful they noted my concern and were appreciative that i put forth an honest effort. I have not a bad thing to say about either senator, though both republicans, they have voted many times on the Dem. side, and i feel if this werent an election year for them, they would vote with Sen. Reid.

In Kansas, being openly gay isn’t a very accepting lifestyle. Gays have no hope here. We are Underrepresented and oppressed by our politicians and judged by our neighbors. I just contacted my Maryland senators to repeal DADT! So proud to be a part of this and I know that we are the change, everyone! Our constitution is a document that promises all Americans equal rights and this hateful, bigoted law is in direct conflict with those rights of our gay and lesbian soldiers.
