Lady Gaga brings the fight to the Senate! Join our fight.
The House has spoken - again! In a historic vote on December 15th, by a margin of 250-175, the House of Representatives passed a new standalone bill (H.R. 2965) that would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Now the ball is in the Senate’s court.
We call upon the Senate to remain in session and in Washington until they pass the House bill to repeal "Don’t Ask, Don't Tell." Show your rage for repeal and insist the Senate stay in Washington until they have finished the job.
Call both your senators at the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Here's a sample script for your call:
"Hello, my name is ______ and I’m a constituent from __________ (city, state).
I'm calling to tell Senator _______ to stand with Majority Leader Reid, Chairman Levin, and Senator Lieberman and vote for the House bill to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' Fight back against Senators John McCain and Mitch McConnell's obstructionism and pass repeal this year.
Thank you.”
Call the Capitol switchboard today!
(202) 224-3121
These senators particularly need to hear from you. Please call them today!
--John Ensign (R-NV);
--George LeMieux (R-FL);
--Richard Lugar (R-IN);
--Judd Gregg (R-NH);
--George Voinovich (R-OH);
--Kit Bond (R-MO);
--Mark Kirk (R-IL);
--Kent Conrad (D-ND);
--Joe Manchin (D-WV).
Thank you. Together we will make it to the finish line for repeal!

Thank you, Mama Monster, for this. It brings me great joy knowing that you are not only standing up for what you believe in, but standing by us. Thank you. I may not play any role with military standards, but I do believe that everyone is equal no matter what and this is part of that. So, thank you so, so much.

Dear Mama Monster,
Thankyou so much for advocating the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell! Your video message describing how our gay and lesbian service members are being persecuted and losing their jobs because of who they are, was eye opening to say the least. I just called one of my Senators, Diane Feinstein, and left a message. Her Washington office was closed, so I contacted her San Francisco office instead. I will contact my other Senator next: Barbara Boxer. To all little monsters: please contact both of your Senators and if their Washington offices are closed or their voice mail is full, then contact one of their state offices. lets make sure they get the message loud and clear!

“Don´t aks, don’t tell” affects not only the US honer, but the political service honer!
I pledge to join SLDN and Lady Gaga in repealing this rediculous, law breaking policy!
Even being a Brazilian, we have this ridiculous laws in my country, also, but, fortunately we DO fight against those who try to put the Gays, Lesbians or Transgender down while they’re serving the army of our contry, as GOD has said, “We’re all humans, not animals” apart from the MAN’S HORRIBLE LAWS, I’D DARE TO SAY DON’T BE SO BLOODY STUPID, OTHERWISE THE ONLY SHAME IN THE WHOLE ARMY CREW WILL BE ONLY AND SPECIALLY YOU - SENATORS!

Just emailed Senators Boxer and Feinstein for California. Thank you for the attention you are bringing to this issue Gaga. I am in a heterosexual relationship but believe that Civil Rights most definitely have been violated concerning this law. Every man woman and child should be born with equal value under the law but they clearly are not. Thank you again. I am in full support

Your actions are a blessing in so many ways and are getting people the extra push to go out there are fight for what they believe in. I’ll fight amongst your side as hard as I can, because I support the change you are trying to make fully. Thank you Gaga for everything you’ve done and are going to do.

I’d be far more proud to live in a country that respected its military, regardless of orientation. Its practices like this that still make me feel like an outcast in society. Which is why I’ve never considered myself to be a truly patriotic American.
I understand that the United States is far more tolerant than many other countries, but we still have a long way to go.
Thank you so much Gaga for advertising this issue even though it doesn’t affect you directly! If we didn’t have people like you fighting on our side, than no one would bother to pay attention to the issues.
I hope the word gets spread. And I hope our voices are heard by congress. I’m * crossing my fingers *

I just emailed my senator, John McCain to ask him to not filibuster. I am just one voice, though, but I tried to count. No one should be asked about who they are and if they wish to stay silent or be open that is their choice. Thanks to every single military person who has served. I love you and thank you.

I’m so proud of you, Lady Gaga!!! The self-righteous bigots and fat cats of this country are convinced they can maintain a stranglehold on our country by shaming people and stonewalling the legislative process, but you have given us a perfect example of what one individual citizen can do. “The law, put in place during the Clinton administration, restricts the United States military from efforts to discover or reveal closeted gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members or applicants, and prohibits those who are openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual individuals from enrolling.” - (Read more: http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/09/17/lady-gaga-takes-aim-john-mccain-latest-video-message#comments#ixzz0zoRCKGGB)
As a pop singer who’s most likely never served, is Gaga really in favor for proving fraudulent enlistment when it comes to sexual orientation and the persecution of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals by having the law repealed rather than in having the law amended or modified?
When it comes to individuals on active duty that become aware of (or come to terms with) what their sexual orientation is, the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” seemed to prevent legal prosecution involving fraudulent enlistment, so I am unsure of what Ms. Gaga’s stance is when it comes to her involvement in this issue. Is she really advocating on behalf of gays, lesbians, or bisexuals or is she really opposed to gays, lesbians, or bisexuals serving in the military with her call to end a law that does offer some level of protection without another law ready and in place (to go into effect)before she and her followers get the first law repealed? Having never been one to judge a book by it’s cover, I don’t know where her loyalties really lie, but what I do know, is maybe she should just stick to her singing if she’s not able to draw from firsthand experience and\or in depth consideration of what the “big picture” is which might not help her in the “popularity contest” she might be motivated by when that tends to be the type of motivator for those who shoot from the hip when offering an answer and opinion on something they know nothing about rather than engaging in a well rounded thought process before speaking out.
When I joined the service, there were specific questions that were asked during the enlistment process and anyone caught lying faced fraudulent enlistment charges which the recruitment personnel MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) clearly covered with the groups before them prior to the swearing in ceremony, giving the potential recruits the opportunity to “come clean” thereby avoiding such charges should the truth surface down the road. And it did not prevent enlistment – it just meant the some of the individual needed to come back on a different day in an effort to complete the process, while other could return to the examination stations for waivers. As a result of this experience, my understanding of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” has been that it was an effort to prevent “Salem Witch Hunts” in the military when it came to individuals on active duty that were either gay, lesbian, bisexual, or straight. Keeping in mind that at whatever point in life an individual becomes aware of or comes to terms with their own sexual orientation, if they are currently in the military they cannot just say “I quit” in an effort to start their life over or in an effort to starting living a specific lifestyle. They have a commitment to complete the signed contract between the United States of America and that individual who has swore an oath and signed into affect the contract of service which does has its own set of terms and conditions that are legally binding and need to be followed and adhered to otherwise it because a matter of litigation.
As Ms. Gaga has decided to enter into the fray, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Straight community leaders should help to educate celebrities on such issues, thereby looking to the welfare and safety of those whom they represent in their own communities before those celebrities open their mouths in entering into political debates, especially when those celebrities call for “repealing a law” that would then expose or risk those same gays, lesbians, or bisexuals on active duty to a “no law” scenario. Regardless of “the opinions” it still comes down to a legal contract that is signed and agreed to by both parties which can result in “breach of contract” or “fraudulent” allegations that can end up in a court of law should evidence surface that proves wrong doing on the part of either party. Amending the law, contracts, and over all process, would serve those adversely affect more than just repealing law and be more affective in legislating a solution over winning a popularity contest because bottom line - popularity is truly a bad romance in such a relationship.

I have been reading through all of these posts, and I am sickened. Granted everyone is entitled to their own opinion…however, that being said. If you don’t support repealing DADT then why post here. There are plenty of forums that concede to your closed-minded beliefs. Please feel free to join them. Being an Army Wife I am proud that my husband supports this repeal. Sexual orientation takes no precedence over ones ability to be a good soldier. You shouldn’t live in fear of being pushed out of a career that you love by a Government and a Country you swore to protect. I also ask all fellow Virginians to sign the petition that is being presented to our Senators!

These brave men and woman have given their all to serve and protect their country and in many cases their lives. Thank you to the SLDN and to Lady Gaga for working so hard in repealing this law that is so blatantly unconstitutional. Although I am a Republican, I am ashamed of Senator John McCain’s and other Republican Senators’ stance on this issue. As someone who believes our Constitution is a sacred document, I believe that the rights of everyone in this country must be upheld. Only the repeal of DADT will start to heal the wounds it has caused the many thousands of servicemen and servicewomen it has so deeply hurt. I appreciate SLDN’s message, and today I called my two Wisconsin senators and left polite voicemails for both of them. Every little bit helps. Go Gaga!

Strongly agree with your position. We are the land of the free, and well I guess we are not that free at all. It shoud not matter what your sexual preferance is in order to be employed or serve your country. Narrow minded people are the ones that actually pay such importance to applying laws to discriminate against small groups such as the gay or lesbians. Way to stomp your foot on the ground and to say, “enough is enough”!
Barbara on September 17, 2010 at 04.20 pm
I am so thankful to see Lady Gaga taking a stand for human rights and equality. As an Army Wife I feel more drawn to and affected by this issue than some. Sexual orientation doesn’t take precedence over ones ability to be a good soldier. When was it suddenly decided that in the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave”, the Brave had to be hetrosexual men and women? If an individual is choosing to enlist in the military and serve their Country, especially in a time of War, they deserve the utmost respect from not only the American people but they should feel protected and respected by their Government.

I would like to thank you, Gaga, for inspiring me to do this. I am a shy person by nature, and doing things like this—oh how I dread public speaking—make me incredibly nervous. But after watching your video, and reflecting upon what I learned in my seventeen years as a military dependent, I felt obligated as a citizen and as a gay man to stand up and fight the tyranny this law represents. And it felt goddamn amazing.
I thank and applaud you for using your platform to speak to us, the younger generation, for reaching out and encouraging us to not sit in silence and allow this oppression to go uncontested. In fact, just now, you’ve brought a tear to my eye just now.
What you’re doing is beautiful. YOU are beautiful. Continue to shine ever brighter as the radiant beacon of love that you are. And don’t you ever stop singing out.
Oh, and I’ll see you in Atlanta in April. ;)
ROCK ON, MAMA MONSTER! :D
Below you’ll find a transcript of the calls I placed to my senators:
Hello, I would like to leave a message for Senator Chambliss/Isakson. My message is as follows:
My name is******* Tyler *****, and I am a twenty-one-year-old constituent of the senator’s. I have placed this call in the hope that justice will be served. My father served in the United States Air Force for twenty-one years; I know better than most the enormous price that sometimes must be paid by our men in women in uniform who pledge to defend this country and its citizens and to combat evil in other reaches of the world to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I understand how devastating it is for these men and women to witness the deaths of their comrades. I understand what horror the families of these men and women—husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, lovers, friends—experience when these men and women lose their lives. And I understand what fear this puts in the heart of a soldier… yet they pledge themselves anyway. I have borne witness to this courage, and it is a truly awesome thing.
As such, I cannot stand idly by while forces within the senate would conspire to sully, undermine, and erode the very foundation of this nation that these soldiers so ardently love: this nation’s constitution. I cannot stand idly by and allow men and women to be cheated out the opportunity to express this love of their country, simply because they love differently at home. I cannot stand idly by and allow the law to terrorize the people that protect it. I cannot stand idly by and allow fear, ignorance, and prejudice to replace love, knowledge, and justice.
I call to the senator to join with senators Reid and Levin in opposition against any filibuster of the upcoming the bill. I call to the senator to do everything within his power to support the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I call to the senator to not forsake the very people that defend him and the rest of us.
I call to the senator to stand up and do what he was appointed to do: protect the United States Constitution, and take care of the citizenry of this country. I call you, Senator Chambliss/Isakson, to stand up.

Well if you were staring at some’s behind or got caught looking at the guys in the shower, you should’ve gotten kicked out. It’s called sexual harrassment and sexual misconduct. Nobody’s telling you not to have sex with your same sex partner, just don’t get caught. I don’t know of any people in the military that are gay, that wish they could flaunt them selves all over the place. They’re ok with the don’t ask don’t tell policy. Because that’s what they signed up for. They accepted the contract the way it is. Our government and people like you are selling our country out. This is the kind of stuff that makes it offensive to fly our own damn flag. Why all of our jobs are being sold to foriegn countires. And why our economy sucks and high rates of unemployment.
Ashley in Alabama on September 17, 2010 at 03.42 pm
This is one area where I agree with Gaga…I can’t stand her but totally stand behind her and the soldiers in this cause. DADT is the most absurd thing ever. To tell a group of people who they can love is wrong. I’m not gay or lesbian but I know many who, including my mother, and I see nothing wrong with it. You love who you love….and isnt love always better than hate? Keep fighting for these people Gaga….I’m behind you.

As any teen that is willing to carry a gun in to battle. It is a right. But to deny the right to a gay or lesbian person to serve their country is just cruel. Any and everyone should have the right to stand for them selves or thier country. Why is it so wrong to have a open gay man serve his country? There is no “true” reason to McCain to ban gays from serving. There is no reason amongst him. If someone is willing to serve their country, then so be it. Let them serve. No matter gay or straight. Any man or woman should be allowed to fight for the protection of the people. There are no excuses.

This cause truly needs more awareness and I’m glad that you have informed people about this issue at the VMAs, online and at the Monsterball in Philadelphia, which I was fortunate to see on Tuesday. I wrote my senator, Robert Casey and I called his office as well. I will keep fighting until I get a response. Thank you for everything that you do.

I just want to say that this is horrible. I think that no matter your sexual orientation you should be able to serve our country. I think that we should get this law passed saying that gay/lesbian soldiers should be able to serve in the military. I think that this is wrong i didnt know that this was even happening. i thought that there were already gay/lesbian soldiers serving in our army. Thnank you Lady Gaga for openinig this issue to the public eye because some people dont know that thsi issue exisits, or affects peopole. I will be voting on september 20, 2010 to get this law passed Dont Tell Dont Ask so they gay/lesbian soldiers of america can serve there country.
Thank you,
Lady Gaga

I just called my senators, leaving a message for one and speaking with a staffer with the other. Though I am not a huge fan of Lady Gaga’s music, I admire her support of our LGBT brothers and sisters, especially those in the military, who need our support most in these scary times of war.

Gay isn’t real, it’s a deception that Satan uses to draw people away from God. Gaga, if you want to be a real impact on the youth of this country, change your mind and change your life for what’s right, and what’s good. For what’s holy and justifiable before the creator of our universe. Your music is great Gaga, I hope you do not take offense to this message, but be open to what I am saying, because I speak truth. I want to see you in heaven. Take care.

I just called the phone # and asked to be transferred to my state’s senator’s office. To be quite honest I was a bit nervous when I first called and got my wording wrong, but finally got my message across! My husband currently serves in the USAF & we are both strongly against DADT. Thank you, Gaga, for bringing this to everyone’s attention! Needless to say the lines were busy when I first called and I had to call again, but at least that means everyone’s trying to get through!

Gaga, thank you for the support of our troops in the LGBT community. It is a blessing to have a celebrity that can use the limelight to reach out to the rest of the nation and end discrimination. I called my Senator’s today and urged them to end DADT. The troops have sacraficed so much for us, the least I could do is use my voice and my vote to make it count!

Hey Lady Gaga.
I just wanted to tell you that I think you’re amazing. At first when you started to get really popular I thought “Who is the girl and what is she doing? She’s so weird”
To be honest, I didn’t care for the music.
But the music isn’t even what I should have been paying attention to. You’re taking ACTION for things that are happening HERE. Not in every other foreign country like so many other celebrities focus on. You’re focusing on a huge issue here and you’re putting your fame to use.
Thank you for defying everyone’s expectations. Thank you for being you and not caring what everyone else thinks. And thank you for fighting for what you believe in.

Hi! I’d love to help with this, but I’m not an American. Though, I am surprised to hear that the USA government had such anti-lesbian/anti-gay policies. I’m neither, but I don’t see how it should matter. It’s a bit disgusting that many of these men and women MISS being in the military, even though it’s their very government that shunned them. Pretty sad. Good job, Lady Gaga, and keep up the pressure.

I think that it is wrong to do this to gay soldiers who want to serve our country. It doesnt matter what their sexual orientation is they should be allowed to serve regardless. It doesnt matter anyway they are here to serve our great country so that shouldnt matter. I have gay friends so that really does bother me what this world has come to. I fully support this act so i will be voting so thank you lady gaga for making me aware of this horrible law against the gay/lesbian soldiers.

I just made the call. DADT is the reason I never joined the Armed Forces, and I hope that together we can get this ridiculous farce of a law repealed. I understand that it was put in place to do good, not harm, but something like this will not have the desired affect until the people ENFORCING it are mature and responsible enough to do so properly. I’m grateful to all the soldiers past and present for all they do to defend our country, and I think sending DADT to the dump will be a giant leap forward for equality and fair treatment in America. Thank you Lady GaGa, for bringing this to the attention of so many people who were unaware.

I would like to say that I am proud of Lady Gaga taking action. Some people are scared to speak up, in my thoughts, because we’re afraid the response they might say back will be a negative response. Lady Gaga is my idol in many ways. For one she speaks for the gays and lesbians in the service. I am a bisexual and I have many friends who respect that. A friend of mine who is gay was kicked out of his own home because his parents did not approve. Now he is living with his ‘gay brother’ and his parents who take care of him like he was their own. Its a wonder how many people have cold hearts to throw a family member out just because of their sexual orientation. I thought this country was for people who would care for one another. If this country continues with the fight of sexual orientations we will end up fighting amongst ourselves. We shouldn’t be fighting. We should be finding a way to resolve things. And we are now with the help of my role model and all the people who are pitching in to help. I thank you all and may the light shine on Lady Gaga forever. You are an angel and an amazing person. Its an honor to say that your my idol.

Todd Jacobs in Camarillo, CA on September 17, 2010 at 01.20 pm
My letter to the Senate followed up with phone calls to my Senators offices and family members urging them to call!
Senator McCain and Senators,
I am writing you in reference to Senate Bill 3280, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011 and it’s included language which sets the stage for repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law.
I am an Active Duty Lieutenant Commander currently serving the Navy in California. I have had many open discussions with my Sailors on their views of this law. I have also had first-hand experience with colleagues and friends who were dismissed from our Armed Services in the midst of honorable and dedicated service because of the current “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. I respectfully submit to you, Senator, that the current moral reservations on repealing this bill held by our lawmakers and most senior military leaders are not held by our troops today. In my discussion with them, they have much more concern about the adequate funding of our forces, opportunities for advancement, and care for their loved ones during long deployments.
I respectfully request that you reconsider your reported plan to filibuster this important piece of legislation. Not only does the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” make sense for our current military, but blocking the much more important funding of our military for the rapidly approaching fiscal year will divert attention from our current missions.
Thank you for your time.
Very Respectfully,
/s/

you can all follow me on twitter @donaldraines… I am a bisexual male and I was discharged in January of 2007. I was not discharged under DADT, instead the reason for seperation just states “KFS For the good of the service”. I know DADT needs repealed, but I am not sure the discriminatory discharges will end with that. More than 14,000 have been discharged uner DADT YES. Do you know how many have been discharged uner other codes such as myself? So, all totaled how many gays have been discharged from the army due to their orientation???? We probably will never know. I MUST ADD, THE ONLY THING IN EXISTENCE THAT STATES HOMOSEXUALITY IS WRONG IS THE BIBLE!!!!! So, why is the military and government using a FAITH BASED IDEOLOGY to govern with??? Is there no more thing such as SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE???

I am so moved by Lady Gaga’s awareness efforts. Gay profiling should not be treated any different than gender or racial profiling. Gay profiling is not okay, just because army superiors do it. Gay profiling is not okay because our senators support it. Homosexuals and heterosexuals alike are equally willing to give their lives for our country, dedicate their lives to our country’s protection and freedom. Why should homosexuals be any less comfortable than heterosexuals in being themselves in this process? I absolutely 100% support this effort. We owe it to those willing to die for us, to at LEAST support them.
Also, Lady Gaga, you are amazing. While other celebrity figures are dealing with court dates, DWI charges and other irresponsible things, YOU are representing the American youth through your powerful and relentless voice.

Gaga it is great that you are lending your voice to this cause. Would you be willing to lend your voice to the cause of all GLBT Bi-National couples who cannot get visas for their partners to come to the USA to get married and begin their lives? 2 years I have been engaged to the most wonderful woman in the world…but she lives in Ireland. 1 year now we have been apart because we have both drained our finances trying to see each other 2x a year. The distance is killing us and it is SO WRONG that just because we are both women that we cannot get the SAME FIANCE VISA as heterosexual bi-national couples do!!!!

Thank you, Lady Gaga, for taking the time to shed some light on this. It’s not often enough that we find people in such a position as yours that are willing to stand up for what is good and just in the world.
When I was 17, a good friend of mine committed suicide. You see, his stepfather repeatedly threatened him with many things from homelessness to even death, if he found any proof that my friend was gay. It was also my friend’s dream to serve in the military, and one of the things that his stepfather used to harp on him to make him feel guilty about his sexual orientation was that he would never make it in the military, that they would find him out and “beat the shit out of him” and then kick him out, and his lifelong dream would be over.
Not so long after these threats from his stepfather started, my friend signed up for the Marines… Other recruits making homophobic remarks reinforced what his stepfather had tried to impress upon him. My friend went missing for a couple of days, no one could find him, and everyone was worried about him… After a day of searching, finally, he was found in a field behind his family’s house, with a shotgun at his side, and a hole through his head…
My friend was a very religious person, but believed that God would have the compassion to still love him even though he was gay. But the ignorance and homophobia of people that he trusted, and the armed forces which he respected, was enough to push him over the edge…
WE NEED IGNORANCE AND HOMOPHOBIA TO END. NOT JUST IN THIS COUNTRY, BUT WORLDWIDE!

How is it possible for our armed forces to be fighting for this nation’s freedom when the gorvernment has a policy that is not only contradicting the Constitution but stripping away the very freedom of the soldiers that protect them? It’s ludacris, prejudice and down right outrageous! Our sexual preference does not define us. We cannon help who we lover whether it is a man or a woman. A female soldier misses her husband and talks about him with another soldier. She won’t get discharged. A female soldier misses her partner, her wife, and talks about her to another soldierand she gets discharged. How is this fair and equal, how is this fighting fo our freedom whe we cannot express our love of our significant other? This is wrong! How does a government, a nation of freedom, proclaim to be equal and just with a discriminating policy like this? The gorvernment is breaking the law, what is the use of the Constitution if the government is distorting it? Do they even remember the first ten amendments? I pledge to join SLDN and Lady Gaga in repealing this rediculous, law breaking policy. Do AWAY wth Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

I have always been quick to stand up for the rights of anyone that has been treated badly or singled out just for being “different”, coming from such a diverse racial background I know what it’s like to constantly have to put ignorant ppl in their place because they feel they have the right to impose their stupid ideas onto you. I am not ashamed of her loving me just as she is not ashamed of me loving her. I don’t see where she should have to hide who she is to anyone else. Lesbian and gay relationships are very similar to heterosexual relationships. lesbians dont like all girls just as guys dont like all girls in a sexual way. Soldiers shouldn’t have to hide who they are happy with.

Please repeal DADT to me I feel this is a policy thats is discriminating against gay men and lesbian woman and it makes me very sad to see that our country would treat their soldiers this way
Ray Mars in South East Asia on September 17, 2010 at 10.54 am
It all comes back to our freedom as a human. I do not support gay rights, but I also do not stand against it. People should be obligated to have their own freedom in action, by all means they are ready for the consequences.
All those soldiers are protecting their nation, and was doing what they love, what they want to be doing. It’s actually a win-win based on my point of view. They are doing what they can for their country and what they want out of themselves.
What saddens me is that discharging of soldiers was based on sexuality. People should be seen as human. Individuals. With different background and stories they are still human. People can’t be judging, can’t be prejudiced to other people based on their gander, race, religion, and sexuality.
Human should feel liberated. Especially in a free country. Virtues, sins and deeds. That’s the base of what we should judge people for better for worse.
I hope the government make the right choice in the end that can be beneficial to all. Reach an agreement.
For Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, I really hope that your efforts and hard work paid off. You have a very good heart, and you hold a special place in mine.
P.S. I’m not using my birth name if that’s okay.
Maria in Corvallis, OR on September 17, 2010 at 10.47 am
Re: Ange, on the subject of people who didn’t care about DADT until Lady Gaga brought it up:
I’ve been following the DADT story for several years now (along with general LGBT issues) It seems that the politics of DADT have reached a critical juncture recently, and there is now the potential for real political change (whereas earlier, Congress was too occupied with the healthcare debate to make DADT a real priority). So I think it’s great that Gaga has taken the initiative to focus the energy of her fans on DADT at this time. I, for one, will be contacting my senators *now* because I know that many other people are following suit. As part of an organized effort, my call can make more of a difference than it normally would.
Individual action is great, but as a matter of practicality it requires coordination to get real change. If a thousand people call on the same day, it gets more attention than 3 people calling every day for a year. Not fair, but true.

Hello all supports,
I myself am not gay or lesbian but I was a Marine. I have seen many of my good Marines have to hide who they were so that they may continue to do what they love… Serve their country! These Marines were some of my best troops and they are afraid to be themselves. I don’t think that anyone should hide who they are and there is no proof that being gay or lesbian in the military has any affect on a mission at hand.
Thank you Lady Gaga! You are doing a great service and I applaud you for your courage.

In all honesty, I have never heard about this DADT non-sense before Lady Gaga made her speech during the VMA’s. As a die-heart fan of hers and an advocate for the gays, I decided to look more into this problem that sadly persists. I have never been so outraged and sick as I am now. I am a firm believer in our generations motives and with EVERYONES voices, we can make a difference for equality that is rightly deserved. So as it stands, I as well as many other participants in my community will make their voices heard TODAY to get the DADT repealed! Obama, McCain, and other senators… ARE YOU LISTENING!? xx

Hello. Dear President Obama
I thought opression and repression were objects of the past. i didn’t think that a great nation like the U.S.A would be so backward & close minded, especially as we now have a black president running the country.
Dear Lady Gaga.

Dear Lady Gaga,
I am a humanitarian like yourself. We both share a belief that any type of war is disgusting and wrong, as is any type of discrimination. However, i strongly feel that this campaign that you are currently running is completely hipocrytical- how can you be against war and yet want your gay fans to be able to join the army? Its sending people to their death for no reason what so ever! Please consider this message before you make any decisions!

If they had, how would that make them look to the american public after his amazing achievements. My point being, as long as you do your job and serve your country then what does it matter what sexual orientation you are? It doesnt!!

Gaga,
I am a conservative Republican, yet I 100% support the repealing of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. I am close to many people in the GLBT community, and it’s true; they’re just like everyone else. They deserve not to be discriminated against just because they are born with the genetic predisposition to be sexually interested in people of the same sex.
Being a citizen of Minnesota, I don’t feel it is necessary to call my senators. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, my two senators, are both very liberal Democrats, and knowing their viewpoints on GLBT rights, I am confident that they will vote to take this terrible, insensitive bill away. However, I am making sure to spread the word throughout my community and to people I know in different states to put the word out that we need to repeal this law.
Thank you for using your fame for a good cause. So many people who are famous are self-centered and don’t really care about others, but I can tell you’re different.

I believe that the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy should stand as it is. I absolutely love gay ppl. Some of the best friends I have ever had were gay, which is why I feel the policy should stay where it is. Men and women shouldn’t have to hide their sexuallity, but in the military it’s different. I was a military spouse and worked in a restaurant on a military base that saw a lot of traffic to and from the war zone. I have known and met a very large amount of military and in my experience,as sad as it makes me, it simply wouldn’t be safe for a homosexual to be open. It is a very sad truth, but even the law couldn’t keep those men and women safe. The military tends to run with their own rules and although a large portion of the people would prefer to see abusers in jail or out of the military it simply won’t happen. There is a comradery there that you don’t find in many places and a friend likely won’t speak out against a friend who is harrassing someone who is gay. These men and women can’t make too many waves with peers as that person could mean life or death for you or someone else tomorrow. Is that worth someone else’s suffering? I honestly can’t answer that, but most ppl in the military would say yes. One mans suffering over another’s life is what it comes down to. To not be openly gay keeps the harrassment down and potentially a life outta harms way(and by that I mean for the gay man/woman). Life would be very difficult and possibly harmful in the military and as a minority most everyone else in the military are not going to stand up for them. Changing this policy does seem like a step in the right direction, but I don’t see how we can change the type of ppl who go into the military. The military isn’t very selective and as long as we need ppl to defend our country and you can point a gun and shoot straight and haven’t commited any major crimes they are gonna take you. Changing the laws and having ppl in high places support this policy just isn’t enough for it to work the way it should.

Terra- if its not an issue then why are we kicked out? as far as your idea of people falling in love with each other…. do you str8s not fall in love or do u just breed? were not saying we want to all take pride off and go running over the base with a pride flag. But you and your husband have rights right? to each other right…. if our own military wont say your here fine now get in line and defend your home your country, how do we get the laws to give me the same rights you have if your husband is dead or dying in the hospital. its all about change… And if the “” oh girl friend got shot i cant do my job” boo hoo hoo bs dont fly! I know several people you hurt the love of their life they will go in balls deep to get the MO FO that hurt the one they love. Do you not think that the army punk that got hit by a ak47 wont fall for his hot nurse….. get over it. no one said we want to gossip at the mess hall, most stre8 men do. talk about who and what they did while on leave or for R and R. and the don’t tell is broken even if someone rats you out…. I E your on your own time and they see you with a a dude! you get investigated. SO technically to be on your time not the military you cant be who you are until your not active duties. Now you also speak of regulations….i can almost bet 100% that in the time of you and your husbands career in the military you two have broken several “Codes” of the UCMJ> dig the good book out again read it cover to cover. then explore the nature of your passion for each other…..speak of looking the other way on some regulations like oral sex is a no no. but oh its ok. right… we so is being gay and in the military. be str8 on your time no the military’s. And I was asked in boot camp if i was gay and i was in camp in 2002! so dont ask dont tell So dont stand for jack crap.

It’s not about having gay rights in the military. It’s about protecting our selves during war from other members of the armed forces falling in love with each other. Do you truly think that if a women has a girl friend in the same platoon as hers, and she gets shot, that she or he for that matter will be able to do the job they signed on for? No, they won’t. If you so choose to join the military, you so choose to keep your sexual preferances to yourself. They don’t ask if your gay or straight. I served in the Army, and my husband is a Marine. As if our country hasn’t screwed us up enough, lets just keep fueling the fire. More power to you if you’re gay or a homosexual. Nobody’s asking you not to be you. (Don’t ask) But you shouldn’t be ranting about which sex you prefer (don’t tell). Do it on your time, not the Military’s. Hell, the military is the only thing left in this country that has any sort of regulations. Lets keep it that way!

this is so ridiculous its not going to be repealed im pretty sure if it was going to be it would have already been done. im married to a solider i know him and many of his battle buddies would prefer for the DADT policy to stay in tact. they have said in past conversations that it would just make things uncomfortable. the DOD has sent out surveys to all soldiers asking if they want to keep the DADT policy or how they would feel if it would be repealed. so calling senators probably isn’t going to help to much. the government is going to listen to what the soldiers say in the surveys.

A majority of people in America do not know what TRUE freedom is. Every living human being should have equal rights! Oppression dominates our society and I commend Lady Gaga on being the most voiced celebrity on this subject. She is a true trail blazer of her kind. So many people are not educated enough to realize how repulsive the thought of DADT is. REPEAL!

Bravo to all your efforts here, it is about time someone gets as bold as you. I am not gay, but I never agreed with the don’t ask, don’t tell policy. We have several service men & women in my family, I know they appreciate it also. Be who you are! Anything ya need Ms. GAGA count me in.

What’s next? they are going to bend religion too. I’m not gay, BUT I support this cause all the way. Poeple should not not have to be punished for their sexual preference, uh isn’t that part of freedom. Now we have employers not hiring someone who has a degrre because they use to be a stripper or a model, Specially mothers. If we do not claim our human rights, they will be taken one by one from the tip of our fingers. Gay or not no one should have to hide their preferences. GO GAGA GO!

Neal Z in Md on September 16, 2010 at 06.19 pm
This is good, call your congressman now. Here’s another idea I recommend exploring.
Background:
Time is running short. Obama is in the end of his 2nd year in office. Next year at this time he will be in the end of his 3rd year. Something has to happen within the year since he will be commencing with his re-election campaign. Admiral Michael Mullen (Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff) is the one person that with the stroke-of-a-pen can change the policy and forward it to Congress for action. You need to get to him and convince him of the necessity. Additionally, if Admiral Mullen agrees you need to convince him that previously discharged gay military members need to be given the option for reinstatement with benefits restored or provide compensation for early discharge. Supposedly the military is studying the impacts of repealing the policy. Hire your own contractor and marketing contractor to issue your own study.
Note: It was Admiral Mullen that changed the military minds to allow women on submarines. Actions are well underway to put women officers on Fleet Ballistic Submarines. This was a major decision and once Admiral Mullen saw the advantages. i.e. another resource of people, he made the decision and that was that. I realize that a Federal Judge recently noted the policy is unconstitutional, however the military lawyers are already preparing to appeal the decision, they can tie this up in courts forever.
Plan 1
Schedule a meeting for Lady GaGa to meet privately with Admiral Michael Mullen (703-697-9121, Exec assistant 703-697-9122) in a professional manner, dress appropriately and respectfully. If necessary, bring a couple military experts with you as backup. Present your arguments in a professional and well thought out well-staffed discussion paper. Point out the pros and cons of Gays in the Military and the reasons why the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy needs to be repealed. If possible point out the cost benefits of repealing the policy, i.e reduced admin and legal costs. Realize that he has a staff of some of the brightest military minds in the world. Have a press conference after the meeting with him to discuss the progress.
If he won’t meet privately with you then go to Plan 2
Plan 2
1) Use your marketing and publicity muscle/clout to flood his office with millions of letters. Actual letters will work better than e-mails; this is old school and Admiral Mullen is old school. Your millions of Little Monster Fans can send the letters. At your concerts you can have draft letters available for each fan to mail to Admiral Mullen office in the Pentagon. The draft letters can be posted on Facebook, etc…Letters are logged in the public affairs office and require a response even if is to say it was received.
I think you would be better off writing to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen and flooding the mailbox then writing to Harry Reid as you mentioned on your Facebook post. [1000 Defense PNT, Wash DC 20301-1000] Those are the two people that make policy changes. If the millions of GaGa fans write well thought out letters it will clog up the Pentagon Post Office (no e-mails, they get deleted). It would be like putting a cork in an asshole, the body would stop functioning.
2) Plan numerous peaceful protest marches in front of the Pentagon on Army/Navy Drive. Get the permits.
3) The military says they need time to study the impacts, if so then that means that they must have issued a contract to a contractor to study the effects of repealing the plan. The military always (usually) issues a contract to a contractor. You want to know the name of the contractor doing the study. You want to know the cost of the study and when the study results are scheduled for delivery to the Honorable Secretary Robert Gates (Secretary of Defense). You can find out the name of the contractor and the specifics of the contract by requesting this information with a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request. Once you know the name of the contractor flood the contractor’s office with letters using your publicity and marketing muscle. Your goal is to influence the results of the study and request for a speedier report. This is not rocket science and should not take long to complete the study. If they have not started the study, then the military is stalling because they have been saying all along that they need time to study the impacts of repealing the policy. Shame on them if they haven’t, since this will also put Obama in a bad position.
Note: This was one of President Obama’s campaign promises.
4) Hire your own contractor and marketing contractor to issue your own study.

The feedback and voice in this matter is literally off the hook.my gay, lesbian, bi sexual, transfer gendered friends we are in this battle for the wrong reasons.we aren’t being discriminated against because we are unique or the minority, its because of the intolerance of our sexuality. WE ARE HUMANS,GODS CREATIONS,AND WE SHOULDN’T BE ASHAMED OF WHO WE ARE. Its the world, the blind eyes, false religion teachers, people in power who do not accept US.close minded people who do not understand or know God think they know everything, and sadly enough think they’re honoring God by discriminating against US.The intolerance of people who are not straight sickens me.why can’t ALL HUMAN BEINGS, GODS CREATIONS BE EQUAL?WE NEVER HAVE TO BE ASHAMED OF WHO WE ARE…WE ARE THE UNITED SOULS,WE ARE THE CHOSEN ONES..WE WILL LIVE TO FIGHT FOR ANOTHER VICTORY..WE WILL FIGHT FOREVER! This is sometimes beyond our nature to judge a person from being something that they should do or must do. Besides, through all these years, more than 20 years that I have been waiting for someone brilliant and unique like LADY GAGA to strike the whole world on what FASHION , UNIQUENESS, CREATIVITY & things that were so simple but yet turn to be special in the commercial box.

Lady GaGa is the world biggest pop star of our time, and she is helping one of the bigest issues we are facing. “don’t ask, don’t tell” is the military law that mean that the LGBT cant really be who they are, if they are fighting for usthen we should let them express who they are but no, they are discharging them from there duty because of theyre sexuality.NOT FAIR TO THEM!!!!. we should all help repeal this law so men and women who are fighting for us keep fighting and not b discharged becasue of there sexuality.

I just wanted to say a BIG Thank You to both Lady Gaga, and to all those who serve our country! They are out there serving our country everyday, and that is all that matters to me. Gay or not, one should not have to hide who they are, and if anything the Gays deserve MORE respect for putting up with this “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for so long. Times have changed people and this is not the 1950’s anymore. I say this is no different than giving Blacks or even Women rights, so just embrace it. Being Black or a Woman is not a crime or a sin…and neither is being Gay. To be honest, I am appalled that we have not repealed and won this sooner.
That being said, I love you Gaga!! You are a truly talented artist and I thoroughly enjoy all of your songs. You have such amazing lyrics, great beats, and creastive videos and outfits. I had the priveldge of seeing your concert in Minnesota, and had the best night of my life. I look forward to coming out and supporting you again on your next tour as well. Keep up all of the great work and Thank You for supporting and spotlighting this great cause. Before the other night I had never even heard of it, but I am glad that I am now able to help. Congrats on all of your VMA wins (I loved the meat dress)!!! I will forever be Gaga for life!!!

“Don’t ask don’t tell” IS the reason why I backed out at the last second on going in to the air force. I could not handle hiding who I am and what I stand for (EQUAL RIGHTS!!) and I believe no one should have to! We have one life, live it for ourselves not for anyone else. I really feel sorry for people who think this is ok to treat people this way and to go around judging someone just because of sexual orientation. Aren’t we brought up and taught to love people for what’s on the inside and love OURSELVES for what’s on the inside and to be comfortable in our skin?? What has happened to people to make them think they are better than anyone else and go around judging and to FIRE someone because of sexual orientation!! REALLY????? This HAS to change and we are the only ones who can do that. I’m proud to join the fight ! I’ m out and happy and I don’t hold back for anyone! Be free everyone…

Tyler in Nebraska on September 14, 2010 at 05.05 pm
I got an email back from our Nebraska Senator:
Dear Tyler:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the military’s policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” I appreciated hearing from you on this matter.
I do not believe most Nebraskans want to continue a policy which not only encourages, but requires people to be deceptive and to lie. The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy does just that. It also encourages suspicion and senior officers to look the other way. In a military which values honesty and integrity, this policy encourages deceit.
On May 27, 2010, I supported Senator Joe Lieberman’s compromise amendment during the Senate Committee on Armed Services’ mark‑up session for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011. This compromise bases the implementation of repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell on the Pentagon’s review and a determination by our military leaders that repeal is consistent with military readiness and effectiveness, and that the Pentagon has prepared the necessary regulations to make the changes.
Thank you again for contacting me. I always appreciate hearing from my constituents and hope you will not hesitate to contact me again on any issue of importance to you.
Sincerely,
Ben Nelson

We fight for your freedom of religon but religon has no place in goverment which includes miltary. Believe what you want as you have the right, but don’t expect others to chage their lives to fit your beliefs as others don’t expect you to change yours for their beliefs.
I have airmen under me of pretty much every religon and they know that it has no effect on their ability to do their job. The only effect dadt has is destroying someones career for something that also has no effect on the ability to do their job. When people get over their misguided fears of the unknown, people of every race, faith and sexual orientation will finally be truely equal.

I have loved Lady Gaga since the start and am a huge admirer of her outspoken support for LGBT equality. As an out lesbian fighting for the same rights and recogntions, it is so nice to have someone so popular and talented on our side.
Stacy Pearson in Huntington, WV on September 14, 2010 at 01.28 pm
Thank you Lady Gaga for being our voice! I am a lesbian who served in the army & had to put up with the DADT policy first hand. It was not easy. Soldiers are soldiers. Whom they love doesn’t change the fact that they are willing to risk their life for their country. We should be able to be proud of both at the same time. I appreciate your efforts as an artist and an advocate. We love you!!

Proud of you, Lady Gaga! We need young people involved - they move!!
Tracie A on September 14, 2010 at 10.45 am
As a mom who has raised her daughters to know that everyone is created equal and should be treated equal I was elated to see Lady GaGa stand up for equality. I gladly called my Senator as well as the ones listed here. Young people you have a voice and it is powerful so use it. The world I think would be a better place if the young all rallied to the causes they support. Speak up and they will listen, also vote you make up a large block that is very under represented.

My younger sister was completely unaware of the Dont Ask Dont Tell policy until Lady GaGa brought it in front of America’s youth at the VMA’s. When she asked me why her favorite artist, Lady GaGa brought those men and women with her I was able to sit down and educate her on the issue. It was so special. This is just one example of the millions that demonstrate how Lady has created awareness for such a serious and important cause for our country. I am SO proud to say that I support SLDN and my love Lady GaGa!!!!

Lady Gaga, i love how much of an inspiration you are to so many people, and how you actively protest in what you believe. You have made me feel better as a person. I’ll put my monster paws up and won’t stop until everybody has equality. Love you Mother Monster

Dear Lady Gaga,
You are truly and inspiration! You believe in something and you are not afraid to stand up for what you believe in! Every single person should have the right to serve this country and no one should have to hide who they truly are! You are truly a star!
Love always,

Allah says: Yankee intruders, establishing military bases in my land, decieving the people, must pay a price
Allah wants you to understand that according the Laws of Islam male homosexuality is against the Law. For reasons similiar to why the viel was implemented. Allah protects believers and Allah did not want a society where women and children were vulnerable to predators. If you know your history in idol times many abhorent sexual practices were commonplace, as they are today. It is one thing to have a straight army on holy land it is another to switch while they are occupying to unholy. Allah wants war.
Allah says: Blasphemous mouths, tortured souls, dead bodies, and now this
Allah wants you to know that you have gone over there and killed all kinds of innocents. If you think Allah is a figment of a jihad’s imagination I assure you are wrong. Allah wants to remind you that you no longer even follow Christianity. How can you be Godly and have gay preachers just beacuse a bunch of buttruckers have politcal sway. It not only speaks about this in Scripture it speaks about this in Prophecy. Allah wants war.
Allah says the americans have elected a backslider. Contrary to the Qu’ran who insist he was taught the Qu’ran but neither protects it, nor teaches it, in a position of such great power he is a backslider of the 2nd Order. This backslider kills children as all of his party and have decieved ignorant belivers as to this fact, importing them from foreign lands and not teaching them what they are voting for. This backslider practices abhorent sexual practices such as fisting. The Muslims have a reason to fight.
Allah says: people and places, names and things, times and werns, death from above

I am so proud of Lady Gaga to support this. Being a young gay man I have seen the harsh reality of what it is like to be discrimatined. I unfortunately live in Canada so I cannot call a senator but I am letting all my friend who live in America to call and get this overturned because the world should be about peace and equality and no one should be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation.
I hope this bill ends and everyone can be free to be themselves and not hide.
I would also like to congratulate Lady Gaga on using her star power to do good for the world. She is truly a role model for everyone in the world :)

At David Blakely: Yeah, but think of the many people who are doing something about it instead of just leaving a cute comment here. I wouldn’t be calling my senators tomorrow if it weren’t for her. I was aware of this issue, but with school, work, etc…I would never remember to call them to repeal this law. So I think it’s great she’s got the word out at an extremely popular awards show, and maybe made some young kids think about it. It’s incredible how much she supports the gay community. I went to her concert a couple of weeks ago, and she mentioned her love and support for them throughout the entire show. Trying to do good is better than not doing anything.

at ericas comment u do have a point. however i see them mainly coming on here 2 show their love for her and r doing exactly what she wants us 2 do >< which i can understand, but i saw several comments which only said i love u gaga and 1 even said ‘<3’ and nothing else. it depresses me slightly :/ i havent called yet, mainly cuz my phone is dead right now and i dont feel like getting up. however i do plan on calling 2moro

At the last comment from David Blakely: A lot of her fans are young, and that’s good that they’re at least coming to this website and calling their senators (hopefully) to help repeal this law. A LOT of the comments here are not only “we love you gaga.” Most of them are thanking her for bringing awareness for DADT.
David Blakely in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 14, 2010 at 01.17 am
i am quite apalled at some of u posters. this site is for a good cause, and all ur doing is saying ‘i love u lady gaga’ when u really should b talking about the issues she supports
Erica in Michigan on September 14, 2010 at 01.14 am
Finally a pop star taking direct action. I know monetary donations are good for a short term solution, but being direct to the root of the problem is a lot more efficient. I truly hope she doesn’t stop here and continues to take our core issues out there in the face of the public, especially the young crowd. I will be calling my senator tomorrow, since it’s a little late right now, and I hope this ridiculous law becomes a thing of the past. And I also hope we no longer have “power hungry” wars. Lady Gaga is really great, and I loved her concert at Auburn Hills!

Lady Gaga - I am a USAF veteran who is gay. I served honorably. I was stationed at NATO Hdqts in Belgium and served alongside openly gay military members from other NATO countries. DADT must end now. It is wrong and it is an insult to all who wish to serve and who have served.
Thank you for all that you are doing on behalf of gay and lesbian service members and veterans.
You are lovely.
Bobbie Arnold in SparksNV on September 13, 2010 at 09.40 pm
Lady GAGA you have made a powerful statement by standing up against the DADT policy. Let’s hope that all representatives in office show us the same courage you have by speaking up. The same courage our military people have shown us. Gay or heterosexual. You truly are an amazing woman Lady GAGA. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
