Frontlines: The Latest from OutServe-SLDN

Jump in to the Fight Today

As we approach crucial Senate floor votes that could come later this month or July, SLDN is keeping up the pressure by reinforcing our coalition ties and adding new allies. We continue to reach out to local groups, national nonprofits, state-level organizations, and individuals to build up an unstoppable network of support for “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal. Just yesterday, the National Center for Lesbian Rights echoed SLDN’s call for action in a message to its members, and today, the newly resurrected Veterans for Human Rights based in Portland, OR, joined SLDN’s circle.

This week, we’ve been telling supporters to contact their Senators and urge them to support the repeal amendments currently in the Defense Authorization bill. Tell each of your Senators to follow the lead of Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Carl Levin (D-MI) and reject attempts to filibuster, strike repeal, or weaken repeal language.

Speak out today and your voices will have a real impact at this defining moment.

As a new addition to the SLDN team, I can’t wait to work with our allies – big and small! – to highlight these voices and encourage new ones to speak out. This is an exciting and momentous time to jump into the fight for DADT repeal, as we present a united front for repeal of this discriminatory law.

I hope you’ll join us by diving into the action: Whether at home by calling your Senators and writing a letter to the editor, or by volunteering or visiting an SLDN booth at a Pride event near you. I’ll be joining our team at DC’s Capital Pride street festival this Sunday, and I hope to see you there! But whether you’re in the District or far away, you can make a difference as the repeal action heats up in the Senate. Let’s do it!
