Lady Gaga Salutes SLDN in Anthem for All Patriots

The group included former Maj. Mike Almy, who helped escort Lady Gaga down the white carpet in September 2010 at the MTV Video Music Awards, but had yet to catch a Lady Gaga concert.

This past fall, SLDN and Lady Gaga partnered to build momentum and support for final passage of DADT repeal legislation in December. We were proud to join Gaga in the historic fight for repeal, and now we were honored to share the experience of seeing her perform.

The show was fabulous, with eye-popping visuals and more costume changes than one could count, each one as unique as the last. Through the energetic dance numbers and challenging songs, Lady Gaga’s talent was clear.

Along with playing wonderful renditions of her more famous songs, Gaga wowed the crowd with a new song, called “You and I,” off her forthcoming album, Born This Way. While playing a fire breathing piano, at times with her stiletto heels, Gaga showcased her vocal talents, belting out the tune perfectly along with a crescendo from the electric guitar. In the end, Gaga emerged from backstage for an encore, her newest single, and anthem of acceptance – “Born This Way.”

Throughout the show, Gaga continued her message of acceptance, particularly for the LGBT community. She repeatedly expressed support for her LGBT fans, and gave $20,000 to LGBT programs. We were honored when she dedicated her encore performance of “Born This Way” to SLDN.

We cannot thank Lady Gaga enough for her continued advocacy of SLDN and LGBT service members.
