On the Frontlines at San Diego Pride

The legal team was out in force at SD pride this past weekend. For background, we strategically attend pride festivals located near military bases and as it happens SD has one of the highest concentrations of service members in the country.
Dozens of service members stopped by the SLDN booth over the course of the two day festival, including many who had reached out to SLDN for help since we were founded 17 years ago. Aided by a bevy of volunteers, including many veterans, we gave each service member a copy of our "pocket survival guide" and a "rights card" for their wallets. You can view our resources online.
SLDN is the only organization that provides free, confidential, legal services to those impacted by “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” As a part of that role of advocating for and protecting service members we made sure to advise them about the newest changes to how the law is being implemented. We also made sure that they know its unsafe to come out to anyone anywhere at any time until the law is repealed. You can read our warnings online.
Being at pride and meeting so many service members - some who were just about to deploy for their third or fourth tour - reinvigorated our legal team in the fight for repeal, so these service members will have the very freedoms they are fighting to protect.
