Our Fallen Comrades
Over the weekend our nation learned about a CH-7 Chinook helicopter crash that killed 30 of America’s service members, making it the single deadliest incident during the war in Afghanistan. The crash took place sixty miles southwest of Kabul, and was caused by an insurgent fired, rocket propelled grenade. Among the casualties were 22 SEALs, five airmen, and three soldiers, accompanied by eight Afghan soldiers.
Yesterday, 30 bodies returned home. Families, friends, and citizens all over the United States mourn over the loss of these brave patriots, but know that as long as the Taliban remains a threat, the U.S. military will stand ready to protect our national security. President Barack Obama said Monday that this event serves as a “stark reminder of the risks that our men and women in uniform take every single day on behalf of their country.”
SLDN remembers the individuals who gave the ultimate sacrifice during this tragedy. We are also reminded that the work that we do as an organization is for America’s military. The commitment that they make every day is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but should inspire us to do our part for freedom.
Today, we honor their service and send our condolences to their families and friends.
