Frontlines: The Latest from OutServe-SLDN

Photography Exhibition Depicts Life under DADT

Jeff Sheng’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” solo photography exhibition is being displayed at the Kaycee Olsen Gallery in Los Angeles until October 23. This DADT Exhibitionseries is the first to feature the photographs and stories of more than 60 men and women now serving under DADT.

Sheng, who also created the art for SLDN’s “Stories from the Frontlines” campaign, is nationally renown for his moving DADT photography. The exhibition coincides with the release of Don't Ask, Don't Tell: Volume 2, a full-color photography book (www.DADTbook.com), featuring the portraits taken in 2010 of patriots who serve under this law. The foreword is by DADT repeal champion Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), and the book also contains an essay by former Air Force Major and Iraq war veteran Mike Almy.

The various poses and obscured faces of the subjects in Sheng’s exhibition illustrate the forced silence DADT imposes on service members every day. To learn more about the exhibition and Sheng’s work, click here.

Even if you are not in the LA area and want to support the push for open service, you can take action today and make a real difference in the repeal fight by contacting your senators.
