Policy Update: Today’s Action by President Obama and the Pentagon
Today, President Obama traveled to the Pentagon to unveil the new defense strategy for the United States Armed Forces. At heart, the new defense posture proposes cuts in military spending and creating a more nimble military, moving away from large ground operations and focusing more on counter-terrorism. At the same time, the U.S. will work more with NATO and other allied partners. The Department of Defense also outlines the need to reduce its manpower costs, with cuts in compensation and health care.
