Pride Charlotte Shows Fight for Repeal is Only Heating Up
An estimated 11,000 people attended Saturday’s Pride Charlotte, held on the grounds of the NC Music Factory. The SLDN table was staffed with nine volunteers, who came from the local Charlotte area as well as South Carolina and Georgia. It was heartening to see so many folks visit our table, ask questions and express support for repeal.
Veterans from almost every branch, including Reserves and National Guard, approached our table to share how pleased they were that SLDN was present and still working hard for repeal. Several domestic partners and family members of gay and lesbian patriots also came to our booth to tell us about their loved ones serving in silence.
This year, the number of younger attendees signing petitions – from high school to college students – was off the charts. Lines formed around the booth with students encouraging their friends to sign as well. These emerging activists are informed, following the news, and passionate to lift the ban.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped create a great Pride, and thank you to repeal supporters everywhere!
