Public is on Fehrenbach’s Side

Yet another poll, this time from Gallup, was released this week showing massive public support (69 percent) for allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly. (It is always worth remembering that poll numbers rarely look this good for any public policy issue.) Washington should listen to the wisdom of the American people, who effectively think that Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach -- the latest service member to receive discharge paperwork -- should be able to serve openly. He has only been an asset to his unit and to this country, winning eight air medals, including one for Heroism. It's not easy to find such an accomplished F-15E aviator, which the government has spent $25 milllion training.

Yes, Lt Col Fehrenbach should be allowed to continue his service BUT ALL gay and lesbian service members should also be allowed to continue their service openly.  The DADT policy forces the military to LOWER enlistment standards to meet recruiting quotas.  What does that mean?  It means we are allowing convicted felons into what was once the greatest military in the world.  My daughter who is in the Army was sexually assaulted by a fellow soldier who was convicted of rape before he entered the military.  Who is protecting my daughter from convicted rapists that wear the same uniform that she does?  Also, gang related activity IN the military is at an all time high.  If we end the DADT policy we can again raise the recruiting standards to again allow only the best and brightest in our military.

Wannetta, I so agree. I think he should be able to stay in as long as he wants, and as long as the skills he has are needed by the Air Force and continue to save lives, and help in the fight.
First and foremost, he’s a soldier who deserves both our gratitude and respect.

I am not for gay marriages, but however
this man has serviced for 18 years, it is not fair to throw this man away like yesterday trash, he has serviced in the most dangerous parts putting his life on the line. he has not hurt anyone in 18 years the next 2 should not matter.he should be able to Retirer not kicked out.
this man gave up 18 years of his good life for this Country, the words of Preisdent Kennedy,
As not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your Country.
this man has done his part for his Country now his Country need to be fair
with him.

Hi,
Army wife here. My spouse’s LIFE depends on good fighters like the ones you represent. I don’t give a damn if someone is gay or straight: if they’re willing to fight the bad guys so the good ones can survive and thrive, then that’s far beyond the pontificators who sit on the sideline, wave a flag, castigate gays,  but never get off their rear end to serve. I’ve written about LTC Fehrenbach on my blog, and will post a link to this fund on my sidebar.
