Reflecting on the Day
On this day, we are reminded that the remarkable work Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. accomplished made it possible for LGB service members and their supporters to successfully petition Congress and the White House to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT). Ending the discriminatory law was the civil rights achievement of this decade, and it would not have been possible without the leadership and inspiration of those who paved the way earlier.
Indeed, Dr. King taught us that the American people needed to see the faces of those who were being wronged - that it was critical to tell their stories and show their faces. Dr. King gave us the blueprint and paved the way. We think he would hail the end of DADT, and we proudly salute Dr. King and give thanks for his enduring lessons and extraordinary accomplishments.
