Resolution Calls for Repeal This Year
The Arlington County Democratic Committee voted unanimously to support a resolution calling on Congress to repeal DADT in 2010. The vote was taken at our March 3rd monthly membership meeting following a panel discussion led by Congressman Moran.
Obama remains hugely popular and there is a passion for DADT repeal among all Committee members – straight and gay. We know that Senators Webb and Warner are important votes – particularly as the Senate Armed Services Committee takes up the FY2011 Defense Authorization Bill and DADT repeal. The resolution specifically endorses this approach and calls upon our two US Senators and other members of the VA Congressional delegation to support repeal in 2010, yet allows for provisions for a delayed implementation.
Arlington Democrats have been very influential in helping to change the political landscape in Virginia over recent years. Hopefully other Democratic Committees within Virginia will follow Arlington’s lead.

IT TAKES GUTS!
General Fraser, ACC Commander. had amass CC today and took on questions form the audience. I’ve been seeing this happen more and more often lately, but there was an A1C, not positive on rank, that asked, “With gay marriage becoming legal and all, what are your thoughts on repealing DADT?” Body language alone told us he didn’t want that question. He gave the text book answer of, “It’s the law right now and we have to follow laws as congress says and ......” I was hoping for a better answer, but then remembered that he has been in since 1974 so I shouldn’t have expected much. I just can’t believe the airmen had the courage to say that in front of the entire base. I’m sure the witch hunts will probably start for him but it was awesome. At least it’s good to know I’m not alone, besides Lt Col Fehrenbach here.
