LEGAL WARNING: Service Members Still at Risk

On Wednesday, December 22, 2010, President Obama signed the bill that authorizes the repeal of DADT. There are still, however, many more steps in this process before the law is actually repealed. Until that time, DADT remains the law, and it is unsafe for service members to come out.

Rapidly changing events – both in Congress and in the courts – may be confusing for service members and recruits, so we encourage you to click here for the latest news on the legal status of DADT.

If you are currently serving and have questions, interested in returning to the military, or joining for the first time, contact SLDN’s legal hotline (202-328-3244 x 100 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) to set up a free, confidential call with an attorney to discuss your options.

Let’s certify and implement ASAP.  At the signing of the end of DADT the Commander-in-Chief said every one of the service chiefs was “committed to implementing this change swiftly and efficiently.”  At a later press conference the same day, he said the joint chiefs would implement the end of DADT “smartly and swiftly.”  How about yesterday!

Because, Augustine, that’s what presidents are supposed to do. They’re elected by the people and their power comes from them, so to some degree they must be an instrument of the people’s will!

And the repeal passed, btw.
