Repeal Advocates, Veterans Gather in Denver for SLDN Board Meeting

SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis introduces Senator Mark Udall to Anna Curren. The SLDN Board, Military Advisory Council, and staff were all proud to be joined this past weekend in Colorado by Sen. Mark Udall and hear his comments on how the Senate passed the repeal bill late last year.

It was my privilege to introduce the senator and visit with him this past Saturday in Denver. Here we see SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis (center) introducing Sen. Udall to one of our most energetic repeal advocates and committed Board members from San Diego, CA, Anna Curren.

Also with us in Denver this past Saturday was SLDN client Air Force Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, several other active-duty service members and veterans, and a host of Colorado supporters. We were also joined by Ellie and Lauren of Boulder, CO, two college students who created a YouTube video last fall urging their classmates to call the Senate in support of DADT repeal.

This was SLDN's third visit to Colorado over the past three years. We love the "Centennial State" and the Mile High City.

How about this :) How about you take all of these politicians and lawmakers, and drop in them dead in the middle of where many Marines are serving as we speak, and let them live as we live. And I don’t mean on the nice big bases, where the throngs of officers have wifi and movie theaters. I mean on the Patrol Bases that get mortared everyday. Have them hold their breath on the convoys that we all undergo outside the wire, and hope as we hope that each bump isn’t our last. And finally…take away their luxuries. No showers, make them do their business in wag-bags and have to carry their own shit to burn pits. And I guarantee you some decisions will be made very quickly :)

Spoiled. That’s the problem.
They are all spoiled men, and they think that their positions entitle them to make decisions for the very people that fight to give them their freedom.
We fight for their freedom, so we should also fight in the same manner for our own freedoms :)

Great.  The Senate was heroic in passing the end of DADT.

But what did Sen. Udall and others have to say about the endless wait for Executive Branch Certification + 60 days?  When the President recently said “a few weeks, not months, did he mean another 30 weeks which is what we have seen so far since the Senate vote?
