SLDN Launches Maine Action
Today, SLDN released a state-wide action alert in Maine, calling upon our grassroots network to contact Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). The sole Republican to vote for repeal in the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Collins showed leadership that deserves our thanks.
Supporters can call Sen. Collins’s DC office and thank her for her vote for equality. Additionally, we encourage constituents to contact Sen. Snowe’s office and tell the senator to vote for repeal when the bill comes to the Senate floor this summer.
With help from our friends in Maine, we can show our appreciation for Sen. Collins’s decisive action and our encouragement for Sen. Snowe’s positive vote. If you are a constituent from Maine, please check out the action alert below for the senators’ phone numbers!
Friend,
Last month, we saw a historic victory in the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) as members voted 16-12 to include "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal language in the defense budget. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) was the sole Republican to vote for repeal, demonstrating her independence and leadership.
Sen. Collins deserves our thanks for her vote for equality.
Call her today and say thank you for supporting repeal.

The tide is turning in the legislative fight, but make no mistake. Significant hurdles remain.
Opponents of open service will soon try to turn back the clock on the progress we've made. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has even threatened to mount a filibuster to derail a repeal vote on the Senate floor this summer.
Your elected senators need to hear from you. We will need Senators Collins and Snowe to follow the lead of SASC Chairman Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and vote against attempts by the opposition to strike repeal or weaken the language.
Thank Sen. Collins today and urge her to keep up the fight for repeal on the Senate floor.
(202) 224-2523 - Sen. Collins's DC office.
Please call Sen. Snowe and ask for her vote on the Senate floor.
(202) 224-5344 - Sen. Snowe's DC office.
Despite key victories in May, DADT remains the law. Service members will still be fired every day. During this critical hour, we will need the support of Sen. Collins and Sen. Snowe more than ever, to ensure that we overturn this discriminatory law this summer.
Thank you.

If Republicans were true to their underlying principles, they should be ahead of Democrats in ending DADT. Personal freedom and responsibility! Susan Collins is a hero among bigots in her SASC vote to end DADT. Let’s hope on the floor of the Senate, Senator Snowe will join her. And let’s hope these two Republican women can talk sense to some of the old fogies who appear ready to their last breath to sustain our nation’s shameful tradition of homophobia everywhere—less in the past 30 years, but still strong. While they are at it, they might give Senator Webb a swift kick in the ..........
