The Wild, Wild West of Polling
Soon we expect the Military Times newspaper to release its latest survey on gays and lesbians serving in the U.S. military. This online survey is wildly unscientific, self-selective, and not representative of the military as a whole. Instead, it reflects the views of the paper’s subscribers — and nothing more. In this age of never-ending news cycles and the rush to find and publish content, let’s remember the limitations of an online survey e-mailed to a publication’s readers. Our full memorandum on the polling methodology of the Military Times is here.

I agree with you Mike. The problem is, when these “old salts” keel over, they are replaced by younger, stronger salts who share the same, if not more extreme views. With the younger, more tolerant generation comes a group of very hardened right wing, religious youth who seem to naturally fit into military service. This is where the true challenge lies and leads me to believe this will ultimately be resolved in the courts.

Ok, so I’ll take it with a grain of salt. Speak of, when will most of these old salts keel over already? Sooner that happens the sooner the bigotry dies with them.
