Are you a veteran who was fired under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) or under the prior regulations concerning sexual orientation? If your answer is yes, and you are seeking to upgrade your discharge characterization, SLDN’s legal team may be able to help you.

The standard of review is high and upgrades are not guaranteed, but we are prepared to discuss the details of your case and answer any questions you might have.

I totally plan on Re-enlisting and am currently working with a Army Reserve recruiter. He said RE-4 is still not eligible for waiver but he is keeping me at the ready for when directions come down the chain. He said there have been a lot of meetings with his Recruiting command. We are just waiting for RE-4 guidelines for DADT discharge with Honorable.  After 8 years I get to pick up my career dream and start fresh without the burden of hiding in conversation about relationship topics or being discharged for writing home to a partner if I am deployed.  I am thankful that SLDN and other organizations fought for all of us and continue to do so.  So hang in there and I would contact a Recruiter they seem eager to help in California. SLDN knows all of the legal things we will need to know for our protection and such.

i will like to know about the R number as well, even though i got out under DADT it might be possible for me to go back right away instead of waiting for this bureaucratic delaying nonsense typical of civies for the law to be apply… i want to go back badly

I contacted you all back in the summer of 2009 and you said you could not help (I was assuming part of this was the case because of limited resources and since the law was still on the books), but this was before the law was changed. Would it be worth the time to try you all again or should I just go with my private legal counsel?

I would also liek to know but I 100% plan to reenlist!!

Is this meant for people who got an other than honorable discharge due to being gay?  Or is it to change the re-admittance code so a person can re-enlist?  I have an honorable discharge and am not going to re-enlist, but I’m curious what this actually means.
