New York Times: Pentagon Shift Ends Ousters Under DADT

Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which advocates for gay members of the military, said the provision regarding applications to join the service would not have a large impact. The “don’t ask, don’t tell policy” prevented the military from asking about orientation during the application process, he said, so the only people who were rejected upon entry were those who voluntarily offered that information in an interview.
