Servicemembers Legal Defense Network Announces 17th Annual National Dinner & Silent Auction
Stronger Military, Stronger America
WHAT: 17th Annual National Dinner & Silent Auction to raise support and awareness of the organization's efforts to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and provide legal services to military personnel affected by this discriminatory ban on open service based.
WHO: SLDN's National Dinner will feature an exciting array of speakers, which will be announced soon.
WHY: Since the DADT law was instituted 15 years ago, over 12,500 men and women have been discharged because of their sexual orientation. According to a 2007 report by the Williams Institute, DADT has also discouraged nearly 45,000 Americans from joining and remaining in the armed forces. SLDN is preparing to reintroduce the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which will repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and establish a policy of nondiscrimination to ensure that all members of the armed forces can serve openly regardless of sexual orientation.
WHEN: Saturday, March 14, 2009 ● Reception: 6:30 p.m. ● Dinner: 7:45 p.m.
WHERE: National Building Museum ● 401 F Street, NW ● Washington, DC 20001
Servicemembers Legal Defense Network is a national, non-profit legal services, watchdog and policy organization dedicated to ending discrimination against and harassment of military personnel affected by "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and related forms of intolerance.
