Servicemembers Legal Defense Network Appoints Trevor Thomas as Communications Director
Thomas joins SLDN team after consulting for the group since April 1
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a national, legal services and policy organization dedicated to ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT), announced its appointment today of Trevor Thomas as director of communications. Thomas will be responsible for planning, implementing, managing and evaluating all communications for the group as the campaign to repeal DADT continues to gain momentum. He will report directly to the chief operating officer and work closely with the executive director on key communications strategies.
“SLDN is pleased to have Trevor join our team as we enter a critical hour in the legislative battle to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’” said Aubrey Sarvis, executive director for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. “We’re delighted to have someone of Trevor’s experience, expertise, and standing. We launched an aggressive communications strategy this week to ramp up the public’s awareness that we’re close to reaching the 15 votes needed to include repeal in the Defense Authorization bill.”
For nearly three years, Thomas served as the deputy director of communications for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a group dedicated to the equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Before joining HRC, he worked on the communications team for Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. Thomas began his career as an assignment editor and news producer at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2001, he also worked as a producer/reporter for WGVU-TV. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism at Grand Valley State University.
