(WASHINGTON, DC) Army Veteran and SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis released the following statement regarding reports that Representative Tim Huelskamp plans to offer an amendment to the Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill that would bar the Department of Justice from using funds to oppose the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA):
"SLDN stands firmly opposed to this partisan attempt to intrude upon and interfere with the legal decision-making and actions of the Department of Justice. Rep. Huelskamp, by this expected action, is making it clear that he and supporters of this mean-spirited language are determined to weaken our Justice Department and relegate LGBT Americans to second class citizenship. SLDN urges the House to reject this rush to push through discriminatory legislation."
