SLDN Staffers Join Boards of Cancer & Veterans Service Organizations

WASHINGTON, DC - Servicemembers Legal Defense Network interim executive director Kathleen J. DeBold has joined the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Persons National Advisory Council and SLDN director of law and policy Sharra E. Greer has been elected to the board of directors of the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP), the organization announced today.

DeBold, who previously served as executive director of the Mautner Project for Lesbian Health before joining SLDN in April, joined the Komen advisory council on July 10. The council is designed to help the organization address gaps in breast health and breast cancer research, education, treatment and screening pertaining to specific population groups. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

�I am honored to be a part of Komen�s efforts to address gaps in breast health and breast cancer research, education, treatment and screening in the LGBT community,� said DeBold. �My experience and contacts at SLDN will be particularly helpful in addressing the breast health needs of LGBT service members and veterans.� Susan G. Greer, who joined SLDN in 2001 as director of law and policy, has been elected to the governing board of directors of the National Veterans Legal Services Program, an independent, nonprofit, veterans service organization dedicated to ensuring that the U.S. government honors its commitment to our veterans by providing them the federal benefits they have earned through their service to our country. Prior to joining SLDN, Greer served as an attorney for NVLSP, where she focused on cases before the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and represented plaintiffs in two class actions through NVLSP's Agent Orange Resource Center.
