SLDN Statement on Comments by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Regarding National Defense Authorization Bill

(Washington, D.C.) Army Veteran and Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis released the following statement today in response to comments by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA) regarding passage of the National Defense Authorization Act:

“It’s nothing short of shameful that the Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, charged with protecting and authorizing funding for our nation’s service members at war, would be willing to put at risk the equipment and supplies they need in order to advance his own narrow, social agenda.”

According to a tweet from John Donnelly, a senior writer at Congressional Quarterly, in a taped interview set to air on C-Span this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. ET, McKeon indicated he would rather pass no defense bill at all than one allowing marriage for gay and lesbian service members.
