SLDN Statement on the Passing of General John Shalikashvili

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Army Veteran and SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis released the following statement today upon learning of the death of General John Shalikashvili, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

"Our nation has lost one of her great heroes today. At SLDN, we offer our condolences to Mrs. Shalikashvili and the family of General Shalikashvili, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for his extraordinary service to our country. In addition to a distinguished military career, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs was a powerful and influential voice in the debate to end 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' We are especially pleased that this remarkable leader was able to see Congress and the Pentagon act on his recommendation to end 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
