Celebrate DADT Repeal with the Sacramento Valley Veterans (SVV) (Celebrate Repeal Day with SLDN – September 20, 2011)

Join Sacramento Valley Veterans (SVV) for an evening of food, fun, and photographs as we mark the end of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT). After 18 years, we're finally seeing the repeal of this costly, discriminatory policy.

Sacramento Valley Veterans (SVV) invites the Sacramento community to come on out for our DADT Repeal Celebration on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 @ 6: p.m. The event will be held on the patio of Head Hunters, 1930 K Street, and will include the Kennedy Gallery Art Center, 1114 20th Street, in Midtown Sacramento. The following is a brief rundown of events for the evening:

6:00 p.m. - Socializing (Food and photographic exhibit* open)
6:15 p.m. - CA Assemblymember (5th District) Richard Pan speaks**
6:30 p.m. - Opening ceremony:
National Anthem performed by members of the Sacramento Gay Mens Chorus (SGMC) to be followed by a moment of silence to recognize the service, sacrifice, and courage of transgender Americans who have served and continue to serve our nation
6:40 p.m. - Speakers: SVV President Ty Redhouse, SVV Member & Photographer Anthony Loverde, elected officials, and representatives from Stonewall Democrats of Sacramento.
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.: Socializing and celebration

* ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT: SVV member Anthony Loverde has crafted a timeline of developments over the last several years before the implementation of DADT and during the years the policy was in place. He has generously donated the use of his black-and-white photograph to augment DADT over the years. His photography has been displayed at SVV's Pride booths in 2010 an 2011. Mr. Loverde's photographs were compiled and released in the photographic book, "A Silent Force: Men and Women Serving Under Don't Ask, Don't Tell." ** ABOUT DR. RICHARD PAN: Dr. Richard Pan is a UC Davis educator and pediatrician elected last year to represent the cities of Sacramento, Citrus Heights and Folsom. After meeting with constituents and voting on legislation, Dr. Pan continues to treat children at The Effort Oak Park Clinic.
