Join the 60/60 Initiative: 60 New Co-sponsors in the Next 60 Days

As the new lead sponsor of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, Rep. Patrick Murphy is working hard to bring more and more of his colleagues on board the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal bill -- but he can't do it by himself. He needs us to contact our Representatives as well, and we need to match his passion. Follow the steps below to get started.

1. Find your Representative

2. Is your Representative a co-sponsor of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act?

Click here to find out if your Representative is already a co-sponsor of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act -- the bill that would overturn "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and replace it with a policy of non-discrimination. If your Representative's name is on the list, you can skip to Step 4.

3. Call your Representative and urge him/her to sign on as a co-sponsor**

Call the House of Representatives Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and tell the operator that you would like to speak to your Representative (whom you identified in Step 1).

Tell the person who answers the phone that you are a constituent and that you are calling to urge the Representative to co-sponsor the Military Readiness Enhancement Act (bill number H.R. 1283) -- which would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and replace it with a nondiscriminatory policy.

After you hang up, please fill out the form below to help us track our progress.

4. Spread the word

Once you finish your call -- or, if your Representative is already a co-sponsor of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act -- please encourage friends, family, and coworkers to join the 60/60 Initiative. Anyone can (and should!) participate. Your friends, family, and coworkers need not live in the same congressional district -- or even the same state -- to join the 60/60 Initiative. We need people all across the country to stand up for the freedom to serve. Click here to spread the word.

5. Meet face-to-face with your Representative

Take the next step and meet face-to-face with your Representative. With the Congressional recess just around the corner, you have a great opportunity to urge your Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 1283 as he/she returns home for the entire month of August. These meetings are one of the most effective ways to explain to legislators why repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and replacing it with a policy of nondiscrimination is so critical for their constituents.
