Push repeal to the finish line
SLDN sent an action alert to repeal advocates in target states on May 20, urging them to call the following Senators who sit on the Armed Services Committee for an expected vote on May 27:

Next week, game-changing votes in the Senate Armed Services Committee and the House could make or break the fate of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal efforts in 2010.
Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Chairman Carl Levin (D-MI) are expected to offer an amendment to the Senate version of the Defense Authorization bill next Thursday that would end DADT.
For repeal to be included in the Senate version of the Defense Authorization bill, we need to reach 15 votes on the committee.
And that's where we need your help - right now.
We've been asking for your help to move these Senators for months. If you've already called - call again. Urge your Senator to vote for DADT repeal next week.
Just one vote on the committee could make the difference between victory and defeat next week.
Call your Senator today and say that waiting another year for repeal is not an option.
The fight for repeal in 2010 hangs in the balance. We are on the brink of victory, but we aren't there yet. We still need a couple more votes.
The fight for repeal on the House side is just as critical.
Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) is expected to offer an amendment to the House version of the Defense Authorization bill that would overturn DADT. Each representative's vote will count.

Call your representative today to say that waiting another year for repeal is not an option. Ask your Member of Congress to support Rep. Murphy's repeal vote.

If supporters of repeal pull out all the stops and push even harder now, we can ensure that next week's votes are a historic win. We are closer to achieving repeal than ever before.
Seventeen years ago, DADT became law through the Defense Authorization bill. Today we stand poised to end this terrible injustice and waste.
Help us get to the finish line.
Thank you.

P.S. On Saturday, May 22, we will celebrate Harvey Milk's 80th birthday. His life reminds us that discrimination against LGBT people is still alive today, and that if we want full equality we have to fight for it. Stand up for our gay and lesbian service members who continue to suffer from the discrimination that Harvey dedicated his life to ending.
A second action alert was also sent nationwide May 20 to supporters living outside targeted Senate states, urging them to call House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and individual Representatives:
Next week, game-changing votes in the U.S. House and Senate could make or break the fate of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal efforts in 2010.
As early as next week, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) is expected to offer an amendment to the House version of the Defense Authorization bill that would overturn DADT. Similar action is also expected in the Senate Armed Services Committee on May 27.
For Rep. Murphy's amendment to be offered, however, the Speaker of the House must first schedule a vote.
And that's where we need your help - right now.
Urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to schedule a vote on Rep. Murphy's repeal amendment to the Defense Authorization bill next week.
Call Speaker Pelosi today.
