Beth F. Coye, Commander USN (Ret.)
CDR Coye’s academic background includes a B.A. in Political Science (Wellesley College), an M.A. in International Relations (American University) and a Certificate in Naval Warfare (Naval War College). She has taught at several colleges and universities, including the Naval War College, Newport, RI; Mesa College, San Diego, CA; San Diego State College, and the University of San Diego. Her academic fields include American Government,, International Relations, Women’s Studies and Human Resource Management. She served twenty-one years as a U.S. Navy line officer and her tours included three tours in Intelligence, and commanding officer. She was one of the Navy’s first women COs.
CDR Coye has published several articles including in the Naval War College Review and the Naval Institute’s Proceedings. Since her Navy retirement, she has served on numerous boards, including Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, and has been an active leader in the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Church where she is Past President and currently Chair of the Endowment Trust. CDR Coye is the publisher and overall editor and creator of My Navy Too, Cedar Hollow Press, 1998., that addresses issues related to minorities in the military.
In recent years CDR Coye has worked closely with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, including participating in the 2006 and 2007 SLDN Lobby Days. She has written several articles and point papers related to repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
