CDR Jay Standring, USN
A native of Auburn, Massachusetts, CDR Standring graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in May 1989 and was commissioned via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer’s School (SWOS) in Coronado, California, he reported to USS ROBISON (DDG 12), in San Diego, CA, and served as Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer. He was released from active duty upon her decommissioning, in October, 1991.
After four years in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), he affiliated with the Selected Reserve in 1996 and has served in various Navy Reserve units, including a 2004 mobilization to Special Operations Command, Central (SOCCENT), where he was deployed to Qatar. In December 2008, CDR Standring assumed command of NR Fleet Forces Command Detachment 206, in Norfolk, VA.
CDR Standring holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Transportation & Management, and a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). CDR Standring’s personal decorations include the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards). In his civilian career, CDR Standring is a Contracting Officer for the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command Headquarters, in Washington, D.C.
