Danny Hernandez
Communications and Development Assistant
Danny Hernandez joined SLDN in the spring of 2010 and currently serves as the organization’s Communications and Development Assistant.
Danny is from Paradise, Texas and is a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a B.A. in Communications, B.A. in Sociology, minor in Spanish, certificate in Leadership Studies, and a certificate of Race and Ethnic Studies.
During college Danny was a member of the Corps of Cadets, the Aggie Marching Band, as well as the A&M Corps Marathon Team. During Danny’s junior year he was nominated and selected to be a member of the Ross Volunteer Company (which serves as the honor guard for the Governor of Texas) and appointed 1st Sergeant of his unit in the Corps of Cadets. Compelled to serve his country, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in hopes of earning a commission as an officer soon after graduation the following year. With the arrival of senior year, Danny was serving as a Marine reservist and had been chosen to serve as the Commanding Officer of his unit at A&M. Danny’s dreams of becoming an officer were short lived, however, after he was investigated for violating the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law near the end of his last year of college.
Following graduation from A&M in December 2009 and his discharge from the Marine Corps, Danny joined the SLDN team. In conjunction with the SLDN mission, it is Danny’s hope that the injustice he experienced does not have to happen to any other young person whose only desire is to serve their country.
