The Military Readiness Enhancement Act
- Lifts the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" ban on open service by lesbian, gay, and bisexual Americans.
- Establishes a policy of non-discrimination, on the basis of sexual orientation, for the armed forces.
- Fairly enforces all military rules and regulations without regard to sexual orientation.
- Allows the more than 13,500 Americans discharged under the ban to rejoin the armed forces, if they wish to do so.
- Saves the government approximately $25 million tax dollars per year - the bost currently spent firing gay service members.
