Thousands Taking Action Right Now
SLDN sent a nationwide action alert this morning asking members and supporters to call their senators and urge them to vote for repeal the week of September 20. SLDN is calling on senators to follow the lead of Senators Harry Reid and Carl Levin to resist any attempts to filibuster the entire Defense bill, as well as to stop any motion to strike or attempt to weaken repeal language in the Defense bill.
Friend,
It's happening. Our moment has arrived. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a vote to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
With the help of Lady Gaga and some amazing veterans, 107,159 people visited our website and took action in just 72 hours. Nearly 93 percent of those were new visitors.
People of all ages are responding; more than 150 people have left comments after phoning their senators.
And young people are responding. Meet Ellie and Lauren of Boulder, Colorado. They not only called their home state senators, but ran down their dorm room hallway and recruited as many students as they could. Watch their video. It ends with a message from the senator's office saying its "voicemail is full."
Call the Capitol switchboard now. The lines are open 24 hours a day.

What to say while on the phone:
Tell your senators to vote with Sen. Reid and Sen. Carl Levin in opposing a filibuster, or any amendment to strike "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal from the larger Defense bill.
Tell your senators that it is critical they vote and finish the Defense bill before they leave for the election recess.
Others are responding every minute. One young man of Cape Cod, Massachusetts called Sens. Kerry and Brown. He was in for quite a surprise when Sen. Brown's office said the senator was not supporting the vote.
Call the 24-hour Capitol switchboard now and urge both your senators to vote for repeal.
